Bit of advise please, Wasabi Zero.

Hi im new here this is my 1st post as you can see.

Well i just installed a wasabi zero solderless in my wii. All went fine, well i was wondering a couple of things.

    1. i saw on the wasabi site that you can download a upgrade disc 1.4b, ive done that. should i run this disc and upgrade my chip firmware or isnt it worth it? also should i use any of the config tools and why?

    2. when i was to upgrade my wii firmware do i do it the old way, in the wii menu, system update? or does it now have to be done some other way, im running the latest at the mo.

    3. does all the online still work, ie can i play games online and use the store as usuall?

    thanks.

Thanks for the reply, i guess theres no need to use the shop channel now is there. I read that you have to install the wads is it? is that easy to do?

    Thanks.

Wads are easy to install, but actually you should do what the guy above says and burn the config disc and run the update blocker. There are Wads which you'll see people mention called IOS files that people use to upgrade the functionality of the Wii (so it can play newer games that require higher firmware) without having to actually upgrade (this is better for homebrew and safer because this way Nintendo can't do anything if they ever find a way to disable a modchip over the internet.

The harder part is actually installing the homebrew channel. I don't know if you can do that on the newest firmware yet. I think if you do a system reset (copy your savegames first!) you can drop down to the original firmware the wii shipped with and then install the homebrew channel that way.

There is a good guide in the guide section on how to do the twilight hack if you need.

Ok thanks, when you say about the ISOs im a bit lost there lol, do you mean i should run the update blocker because games come with updates that can brick your machine, ie a ntsc update on a pal machine? also i was under the impression that ISOs were image files and wads are something completly different, is this not the case? If i downgraded as you are saying would the latest games still work as i know some of them need the new firmware? lol sorry bout all the questions i just wanna know everything i need to know.

i got my wii back then updated the zero, then updated the wii to 3.4..... Then all this talk about a hybrid wii, so i wanted that, so i downgraded my wii to 3.2 to get starfall, and homebrew... You do what you want, its yours but i like having the hybrid wii and homebrew playing all the emulators, and of course all the wiiware and VC i want....

    Hybrid Wii?

Hybrid Wii? interesting way of saying a hard and soft modded wii. I guess I have what u would consider a evolved "hybrid Wii". Since I went Wasabi Zero with Homebrew and 3.4U then went to 3.2U (for wads), and now I'm on 4.0U so I can use wiiware and virtual console channels I've transfered to my sdhc card. Plus I have pretty much every ROM w/emulators on the memory card. But for wiiware you need 4.0 so you can use memory cards up to 32gb of space to save channels on. Plus you need a place to install N64 VC channels since the emulators for N64 suck. Just look up Waninkoko's Sytem Update 4.0. that's the way I got from 3.2 to 4.0 without any adverse effects.

    p.s. Its IOS, not ISO.

ok i understand that a bit more now, only problem is im allready at 4.0 and was before i got the zero, ive since been told that 4.0 cant be downgraded yet, so for the min im stuck with no homebrew i guess, but when i can downgrade your saying go back to 3.2 get all the wiiware, vc ect i want stick it on a memory card and go back upto 4.0?

    thanks.

ps i only have a 2gig stick, would you recomend i get a bigger one?

Well u can try doing a "Format Wii System Memory" and see if that will bring your wii back to its original system menu. Then depending on what system menu version you revert to, you might have to downgrade (check the tutorial section). Then once your on 3.2 with The Homebrew Channel installed, you will need to install a few more IOSs before you upgrade with Waninkoko's System Update 4.0. Then you can install wads from a memory card on to the Wii, once installed you can move them to a memory card. Once they are on your card you can play them just like any other channel. It'll basically give you a lot more room to install channels since the Wii has no memory. 4.0 can support up to 32gb sdhc cards. Just remember NEVER EVER MOVE YOUR HOMEBREW CHANNEL TO YOUR CARD.

P.S. Madworld works just fine by the way.
