Hi everyone. I have been lurking on here a bit and after reading through the forums and checking my Wii serial I decided to go with the Wasabi Zero. I was a computer tech and I've been taking things apart forever, so I found the whole installation process refreshingly easy. Then the worst happened!!! Instead of blinking green and then red when I tested it the Wasabi just cycles red!!!! I did some googling and apparently there is a small percentage of drives that have this problem. There is a workaround of sorts involving soldering a capaciter or somethign to the mod chip, which i read one line about someplace. Does anyone have any info on how I can get this chip to work?
before you suggest I retrace my steps or check the config of the chip or anything like that, BELIEVE ME when I say, I did all that. I was soooo SAD!! I have a ton of backups and no games except some Wiiware to play (just got the Wii last week) so I really went over everything before I came to the determination that it was something else and went searching for a solution.
I gues if I don't get any advice from you guys, my only recourse is to order one of the 3x mods that plugs in the dvd cable, but I worry about some games not working in the future at 3x speed... anyway, any help you can send my way is appreciated!

if u just got ur wii last week that means it is really new. did u research what chipset ur wii has first? the wasabi zero is not compatible with the new wii chipsets, the d2e epoxy and the d3. the only solution for the new wiis is the 4th gen chips that use the drive ribbon cable connection. if u do have a compatible chipset then make sure the clip is on properly. if not seated on there just right would cause it to cycle red. i havent read anything pertaining to certain drives having problems, so idk.

Thanks for the reply. I picked up the Wii 2 weeks ago, but it was purchased used. It is a D2E model without any epoxy on the chip. I had never read about any problems either, but after doing a desperate google search when my Wii was apart I found a small minority of others who had the same issue. There is a work around, but it involves soldering a capacitor onto the chip (if I rem correctly between ground and K or something like that) anyway I decided to order a Drive Key and be done with it. It cost more and worst of all run's at 3x speed, which I assume will cause problems if not with any current games with future games, but it is better than nothing and nothing is all I have (except VC/Wii ware, which is getting boring). I had my day with Gamecube games and don't have much interest in playing with them, so the GC audio problem with the latest mods is not a problem for me.
The person that sold me the Wii seemed to know quite a bit about mod chips for a regular guy off the street. I would be willing to bet he knew the Wii would not work the clip on style mods, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I just wish if he did know he told me, because it would of saved a lot of hassle.
Now I am hoping the place I ordered the chip(s) from will take the incompatible chip back.

oh, sorry bout ur luck. u should have ordered a wasabi dx though. its way better than the drivekey. good luck.
