Wasabi Zero not working :(

Hi everyone, I just received the Wasabi Zero solderless in the mail today. I installed it exactly how the instructions say, and before attempting the install I scoured the 'net for all the info and advice I could find (I applied even pressure, etc.).

My Wii has a DMS drive in it (got it when the Wii first came out). I've verified the DIP switches several times (USA, DMS). I've installed it and removed it about five times, all with exactly the same result: red for a second then solid green, but it won't allow me to insert a disc (it doesn't even make any motor sounds). If I keep trying to insert the disc it will eventually say an error occurred and to eject the disc (even though it's not in there yet).

If I remove the Wasabi Zero, everything works normally. I really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. The green light comes on and stays solid.

Please help!

the problem is the clip
check the pins in the clip
bend the pins and try again
when it`s not working buy a wii clip v16 for wasabi zero.
this clip is better dan the one that comes with the wasabi zero.
or solder the chip in

Thanks for the advice. It does kinda look like some of the pins might be pushed in a little bit in the clip. I took a needle and tried to push them up without any luck. What's the cheapest place to buy a Wii-Clip v16 for the USA? Everything I'm finding is half or more the price of the Wasabi Zero itself!

yes that is the problem with the clips they cost to many but i think that you not buy this clip cheaper. they cost about 20 to 25 us dollar
This is a great clip if you do not feel comfortable soldering onto the Wii's tiny points.
my advice is solder the chip in

Just thought I'd post a quick update. I bought it from ConsoleSource (which gets mixed reviews, I know) and they sent me a replacement *very fast* and were very courteous. It works!! Woohoo! The only issue now is I'm occasionally getting "game disc could not be read" errors, but that could be due to the media I'm using (Verbatim DVD+R, Booktype set to DVD-ROM).

UPDATE: DREs have been significantly reduced for me by laying the Wii horizontally (instead of the usual vertical you see in ads). At first I tried the side without rubber feet (figured the laser would be closer to the disc) but that actually resulted in it being WORSE. So the other way (horizontally with the rubber feet down) seems to be working much better.

i see that you use verbatim dvd+r
try verbatim dvd-r it`s the best media for the wii
and burn it with imgburn

Next time I buy discs I'll get the Verbatim DVD-R's, I already have Verbatim LightScribe DVD+R's so that's why I'm using them for now.

I've been playing a lot of Punch-Out since my last post (and it was unplayable due to constant DRE's) without experiencing a single DRE (Disc Read Error for those who don't already know) since I fixed it. Here's what was happening, I overtightened the four screws on the drive. I thought screwing them tight=better, but apparently that isn't the case. I'm still scratching my head as to why this is, but the rubber grommets and vibration must play a big role.

If anyone else comes across this thread and has run into DRE's I'd suggest making sure the screws holding down the drive aren't too tight. I used a flashlight to see the rubber grommet and once my turning the screw started to "warp" the rubber grommet I backed up one notch and left it at that. I'm also using the Wii horizontally as I said in my posts above. No DRE's at all yet after this fix!

Thank you so much for this info, until now I had only been researching problems with the dvds and system software but to no avail.

I had given up on playing a couple of games a few months ago because of the inevitable DRE's.

But after reading this thread and changing the tension of the four screws and putting the Wii down flat I have been able to play the previously problematic games for a few hours straight without any errors at all.

I'm really glad that I found your topic
