Is the wasabi line of chips picky about any brand of discs?

people say Japan/chinese or whatever the thing is, its 100% luck, its not like every one will work amazingly, or every single Verbatim will be better than something else, my friend had me burn a ton of movies for him, using Verbatim's and 1 out of the 20 discs worked...
i went off price which probly isnt the best choice but i got 100 Memorex for 6 bucks, and verbatim were 55 for 100 or 50 i forget, but in the end like i said its all luck
