It's definitely on purpose. When the ball goes out the back, there's and explosion noise and the pins fall from the center out. The explosion noise is not part of any of the regular Wii Sports games, so that would have to have been added on purpose.
I wonder if the other sports have any easter eggs?

It would be cool if you could hit a homerun through the scoreboard and cause it to explode....or if you could hit the ref in tennis with the ball after a bad call
ok i remebr when i first saw this and ive played bowling on my girls Wii and i ALWAYS curve to the left so doubt i would be able to do that but i so wanna try man i need a Wii instead of using my girls
