    A Confirmed Release Date:

Nintendo has announced the release date for Super Mario Galaxy 2 at their Q1 Media Summit in San Francisco. The highly anticipated sequel is set for release on May 23.

Nintendo conducted a live demo of the game for an audience of journalists, showing off Mario's drill move as well as his ability to ride Yoshi. Yoshi's skills were also shown, including his patented flutter jump as well as his ability to float through the air after eating Wind Fruit. The Wind Fruit looks to be an integral part of the overall gameplay.

Several of the game's environments were shown as well, indicating a giant world much like Super Mario Bros. 3. There was a battle with a Gigaleg-style monster on a planetoid, some platforming on a floating cylinder, and exploration of a disc with cut-out stairs and platforms. Several different enemies made an appearance, including a dragon, and ghosts that eat parts of the ground around Mario.

Look for videos and impressions of Super Mario Galaxy 2 as soon as we can post them.
Lets hope this is the final time we will post a release date... LOL

Here's some actual gameplay featuring many of the same scenes as the trailer. They're bringing back some of the music from SMW and other classic mario music. Very awesome.

Miyamoto: No Hub in Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't have the hub worlds featured in previous Mario 3D adventures.

“You can think of it in terms of something similar to Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where you will have a rather convenient map to navigate. We want players to focus on the joy of the action instead of getting to each game course. We wanted to make it as accessible as possible and as easy as possible for the players. Also because we’re going to incorporate a number of different stars and conquering all the stars is going to be one of the most challenging missions for the player, we want them to understand as easy as possible where they should go next and which places they should go back to in order to get access to the remaining stars.” – Shigeru Miyamoto

I was just browsing around Amazon for something else and this popped up:

Super Mario Galaxy 2 set for two-player mode

Source:Super Mario Galaxy 2 set for two-player mode, News from The Lost Gamer

Earlier today, Nintendo unveiled Cloud Mario, a brand new power-up that will be available in certain Super Mario Galaxy 2 levels. Strangely, no details were provided as to how it will work. Japanese retailer Neowing, however, states that players will be able to build clouds up and use them as platforms. I suppose that makes sense based on the concept art we’ve seen. We’re still waiting to hear about the actual control implementation for Cloud Mario, but I’m sure Nintendo will share additional information in the coming weeks.
