When "Rage" releases in October, Xbox 360 owners will have to make a decision. It's not a decision entirely unique to "Rage," but it will obviously be affected by the amount available space on your hard drive. According to Carmack, the game will release with a gigantic 22-gigabyte install size."L.A. Noire" released on the Xbox 360 on three separate discs, each disc containing around 6.6-gigabytes of data. Strangely, "Rage" is even bigger, but will apparently release on two discs for Xbox 360 (one blu-ray for PlayStation 3)."On the 360 we donít have a partial install option; it's all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate," Carmack said during the QuakeCon keynote. "It means you have to install 21 or 22GB of stuff, which takes a long time, but if youíve got it and you play it on the 360 thatís the way to go."
So to reiterate, it's not a mandatory install. As any 360 owner knows, you have the option to install a game to your system's hard drive. When a game's installed, it generally runs better Ė quieter, too Ė and it seems like Carmack is insinuating that "Rage" will perform better on the 360 if it's installed.
