Black Ops Too Violent, Kills toned down

Call of Duty: Black Ops makes use of a new facial animation capture system so realistic that it had to be toned down for some kills.

"We've completely changed the way we do facial animation," director Dave Anthony told OPM.

"Some of the stuff we've done with Gary Oldman's character is amazing."

But animation director Dominique Drozdz said that the animation was a little too good in places.

"There were situations going too far," he added.

"It was a a contextual kill where you were twisting the neck. It was too much. The throat cutting [is] nasty, but that was worse."

So there you have it people, we've reached the point where killing in games is too realistic.

    It's all downhill from here.

If you're itching to get your hands on Black Ops all the details for midnight launches up and down the country were released yesterday.

Is that just the Nintendo release that got toned down?

I think there should just be a setting at the start of the game, to tone it up or down.

    What's next, mario without fireballs?

I think that in Modern Warfare 2 was a setting like this but just in a certain mission.

Where does it say anything about Nintendo? Besides, I doubt Nintendo could pull of a game that looks too violent with the Wii.
Still, Metroid: Other M with component cables surpassed several 360 games (haven't played PS3) as far as graphics. Not just the cutscenes either (which were WAY too long); I didn't notice all the details my first play through, but there were even little butterflies! If they could do that on the Wii, maybe they could get some convincing violence on COD.

So they are just toning down facial animations? That doesn't seem like that big of a deal or even something you would notice without the developers bringing it to our attention.
