I downgraded to 4.1u, and I would like to use boot.elf as boot2. It's a better "brick" protection. Do I have to uninstall everything, then re-stalled it again by using the install method for 4.1, or is that a better way to do it.

I think you mean Bootmii as boot2. You can only install Bootmii as boot2 if your Wii is old enough to have a vulnerable Boot1. The Hackmii installer will tell you if you can or can not install as boot2.

So I can go to HBC and run bootmii. If it let me to install, I can proceed. right.

You can follow the guide either way if thats what you are asking. Again you can only install Bootmii as boot2 if your Wii is old enough. If it's not then just install it as an IOS and do a NAND backup as the guide tells you.

Awesome guide, looks so easy to follow!

I read it all and there are some points that troubled me. I believe my wii is considered new since I just bought it and it's a black one. I never softmoded (neither hardmoded) it and it's 4.3u sadly. Looks like the Homebrew problem is fixed though, so that's not what is concerning me. But there is what I read here:

Does that mean I might not be able to play my DVD games if I hack it since it's new? I have a lot of games so I don't want to lose the ability to play them at ease =(

If MMM loads at boot, select Manage Priiloader, Edit Priiloader Hacks, enable needed hacks.
If you don't know what the hack does- you don't need it.
I didn't quite get that. So if I'm on my 4.3, the necessary hacks are "Block Disk Updates", "Block Online Updates", "Bannerbomb", and the rest are optional?

And what's the chance of my wii bricking if I try to hack it? I can follow the instructions one by one but I might start panicking if something went wrong in the process. I just lost my old wii by the black screen of death so I'm not ready to lose the second one yet T_T

@7van DARKCORP will not assist you. Black Wiis are not capable of reading backup discs. USB only.

    Correct on the Priiloader question.

Follow the directions exactly and your risk of doing any damage is minimal. Biggest danger to the console is usually losing power when writing to the NAND or messing with something without knowing what you're messing with. So avoid that and you should be fine.

    That's great Ithian!

One question though, original copies (and not backup) still work right? If the answer is yes, then that's what I wanted to hear. =D

    Thanks for the help!

Yeah your originals should always work fine. Softmod is the best of both worlds.

wow, it was so much easier back when all you had to do was open your wii and solder a chip on a ic with cut pins (that took me an hour, this softmodding business is taking up a whole week)

    heres my story:

    started with a 4.3 wii.

followed this guide [Removed to prevent confusion] with the smash stack method.

installed channels(mostly emulators and usbloader_gx), , hb apps via hbb, etc etc. had various problem such as some emulators not being able to save, took forever to get usb_loadergx to find my games on my hdd and still when i got that working i tried to load the game and the screen went black.

then i found this guide. started from chapter 2 and completed it successfully. now all my channels restart the wii even though i restored the original sd card contents. the usb loader that this guide installs doesnt recognize my drive. and the hbc doesnt show any apps even though the app folder on the sd card is full.

want i want to do is just simply start over from a fresh 4.3 wii and then follow only this guide. how can i make that happen or is there a better way to fix my situation?

    much appreciated,
    bougs
