    What was the error?

Homebrew Only in a softmod guide thread

Hey guys I have a Black Wii that already came updated to System Menu 4.3, so I'm guessing chances are that running back-up games on my wii are practically null.

But today I went on and installed the Homebrew Channel (installing BootMii as IOS only), to have emulators and homebrew games, but I will unlikely be running pirated games (even through the usb method).
My question actually comes down to this...
Do I need preloader / priiloader, trucha bug and all that , knowing I'm not going to be installing WAD related things or changing anything around?
I mean, I'll play around the homebrew and the emulators and the home-made games, but nothing more. Is there a chance of my Wii being bricked by just doing this... i mean, if Nintendo decides to put out another system menu update I don't really have a problem if it deletes the Homebrew (i'll just wait for another release), but if a system update bricks my wii, then I definitely want brick protection, but there's so much confusion surrounding truchabug and the other bypass thing, that if by not installing WAD related things on my wii doesn't brick my wii, then I'd rather just leave it as is...
    Thanks for the support

What makes you think it cannot be softmodded? There are methods for it and they will constantly improve and become easier. Adding anything that is not official nintendo software carries a risk of messing up your system.

Why not read the first post of this thread, if your question does not relate to that, it should be asked elsewhere.

Just leave your wii as it is, it is fine.

    Thanks!

I just wanted to say Thank You mauifrog! I bought my Wii when they first came out. Then in an attempt to get my wife Super Mario Bro 3 off the virtual console I updated to 4.3u. I thought I was doomed! I read your guide like twenty times and other than one or two small hiccups (Scratched Indiana Disc, and Improperly formatted SD card). I was able with a great deal of ease install everything. You've written a great guide and I registered just to say I love you

    Thanks!

First of all, Thank you very much Mauifrog for the excelent guide.
Even though, I've used an earlier version of the Mod (R7) it worked like a charm, first time around it. Bought a newly Wii Black Edition with 4.2E and on the first day I configured the Internet, I accidently updated it to 4.3E.

But there is something that I would like to ask before doing something bad to my Wii.

The R7 version of the Mod installed four channels (Homebrew, USB Loader GX, LoadMii and NeoGamma).
What I wanted to know is if it's ok to uninstall the LoadMii and the Neogamma channel and how?

I've been using USB Loader GX (and it works great) so I don't really need Neogamma.
And I don't really know what to use LoadMii for.

I've also have installed (before I updated to 4.3E) the "Weather Channel" and the "News Channel" but since they only work with the "Wii Conect 24" activated, I no longer want them, so: How can I uninstall them also?

I've read about the "virginize your Wii" Guide and there's the "AnyTitleDeleter" but didn't wanted to use it before heard from you.

Thanks in advance for any reply...

P.S.: Forgot to say that I've also downgraded to 4.1E and haven't tried to load any Nintendo channel after that (Wii Shop, Photo Shop, etc...)

    Good work

Good guide, worked fine for me.
    I have a question though:

I installed bootmii as boot2, but I could not access bootmii upon starting up my wii, I just got a blackscreen that stayed there. Pressing reset on the wii made no difference. Starting the wii without the SD card was ok. Bootmii was still startable from HBC, by choosing "load bootmii".

After that, I installed MMM - which seems to have taken over the "load bootmii" option in HBC. However, I still get the blackscreen at startup, and again starting the wii up without the SD card works ok. I have the 2GB Transcend which is supposed to be compatible but I've ordered a 2GB Sandisk anyway.

I have a bootmii folder with:

    armboot.bin
    ppcboot.elf
    bootmii.ini

Am I right in saying the the ModPack overwrote the existing armboot.bin and ppcboot.elf files so that MMM loads up instead of bootmii? Does this mean bootmii will never load up unless I replace the two files with the original ones?

why would you want to pirate games? and its perfectly fine just being able to play homebrew games although those also run a chance of bricking your wii.
I'm not quite sure whats the point of still allowing gamecube compatability, I can't find those games anywhere anymore T.T

Also I just got a new black wii and was able to successfully install hbc thanks to this guide.

The MMM does replace the bootmii files, so if you want to load bootmii, ios or boot2 you will need to copy back the original bootmii folder. I can't imagine why boot2 bootmii is not loading for you, it is doing something since you have a black screen. You may want to edit sd:\bootmii\bootmii.ini and edit the autoboot settings and delay time. That is really the only thing I can think of.
Also, with the MMM files and boot2 bootmii, MMM should load at boot and from HBC's launch bootmii. If this is not happening, you may consider reinstalling boot2 bootmii. I would exhausts the other options first, like another sd-card, and tweaking the bootmii.ini.

Sorry to keep bothering you Mauifrog, but I keep having a problem with Priiloader. I guess I must have bad luck with this guide lol. Anyways, I have tried installing it but it doesn't work. I either get a message saying that its done installing or get a fuzzy screen. Then, when I restart my Wii, Priiloader does not boot up. I never received the option to block updates. Can someone please help?
