Yes am staying at 4.3 for awhile..Currently downloading all the tdb images and will run some game shortly. Maybe you not realize but this is my first experience with preloader or any usb loading. Followed what was left of guide to the letter and I am looking at 159 games to try out in GX. May go with Wiiflow at some point here due to the virtual 3d look. Will see. Next up is to dump all my old burned backups on drive, get some rockband instruments back working (iso37/mirkinater right?), oh and the emulation stuff for the classic games could stand some checking out too. Myself I like pacman and defender..lol.

    Cool The 4.3 Softmod Guide

    DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.3
    4.3 = FAIL, 4.3 = FAIL, 4.3 = FAI
    L

If you FAILED on 4.3, do this, have fun-

    4.3 Softmod Guide

Warning: It is illegal to obtain/distribute backups of games you do not own. This guide, myself, and this site does not support or promote software piracy. Play fair.

    Requirements:
    Indiana Jones Original Adventures(ntsc/pal)
    or
    Super Smash Bros Brawl(ntsc)
Original retail game is required (or modchip)
Is there some other way? NO
    Can I bannerbomb? NO

Be sure to download the updated pack
    Download it now, not yesterday
    Download
    4.3-Mod-Pack(r8).zip 7/26/2010
Format your sd-card, If you have issues try formatting with this tool
    Extract to SD:\
Requires a standard SD card, 1-2g scandisk is best. SDHC cards will not work.
    Run sd:\md5summer.exe
    Click "Verify Sums", Select "4.3-Mod-Pack.md5"
All check sums should verify without error (very important)

    READ EVERYTHING VERY VERY CAREFULLY
If you FAIL, try try try again

Stupid questions will probably result in stupid answers.
Read the guide a few times, and the advise, suggestions, and experiences of others BEFORE asking for help!!!
Stupid question = when I put the sd-card in the wii, nothing happens. - NO Sh*t, it does not work like that.

    Step 1- Load HackMii Installer

DO NOT CONNECT THE WII NUNCHUCK

    Option 1- Indiana PWNS (4.3u, 4.3e,)
-Play Lego Indiana Jones Original, complete the first level, make a save game.
-Use your wii nunchuck when completing level one
-Go to wii settings, data management, save games, wii
-Delete the Lego Indiana Jones save game
-Click SD, copy Indiana PWNS for your region
DO NOT CONNECT THE WII NUNCHUCK
-Play Lego Indiana Jones original, load save game slot 1
    -
When the game loads, you will be in Barnett College. Walk to the Art Room (through the Courtyard), approach the left character on the podium. When it zooms on him, choose the switch to option (two silhouettes, staggered, with an arrow pointing between them).

    -Hackmii Installer Loads

    Option 2- Smash Stack (4.3u)
DO NOT CONNECT THE WII NUNCHUCK
-If you have a SSBB savegame, back it up and delete from wii
-Load SSBB ntsc, wtih sd-card removed, make a save file
-Go to the stage builder, delete all custom stages, exit stage builder
-Insert SD-CARD, Go to stage builder
    -
    HackMii Installer loads

    Options 3- Boot2 Bootmii
    Extract bootmii folder-PAL.rar or bootmii_folder-NTSC.zip to sd:\
    Boot the wii, bootmii loads
Go To the bootmii SD menu
    Load bootmini.elf
    Hackmii Installer loads

    Option 4- Installed Forwarder Channel
If you have a forwarder installed, say for neogamma, or mplayer, or other
Replace the sd:\apps\(forwarder app dir)\boot.dol with the boot.elf from the 4.3-Mod-Pack dl
    Launch the forwarder
    Hackmii Installer loads

    Other options

Virgin 4.3j/k = None Your SOL, sorry

Step 2- Install HBC, DVDx, Boot2 Bootmii
    *Install HBC, DVDX, Boot2 Bootmii*
    Bootmii IOS install automatically
    Select Hackmii Installer -press A
Read: You have not paid, you have not been scammed -Press 1
    Install Homebrew Channel
    Install DVDx
Install Bootmii as Boot2 (if you can)
    Exit Hackmii Installer
    Homebrew Channel loads (HBC)

    4-b-
    Press HOME, launch Bootmii
    Make a nand backup
Bootmii does not support the wiimote
Press Power, Power, Power, Reset, Reset (or use gc-controller)
Power = Right, Eject = Left, Reset = Select
Backup your Bootmii files to your PC
    sd:\bootmii
    sd:\nand.bin
    sd:\key.bin
    *DO NOT LOSE THESE FILES*
Exit to HBC (if you reboot prior to step 5, HBC will be removed)

    Step 3- Wad Installs
Start HBC, press [HOME], load Bootmii
    Multi-Mod Manager Starts
Never Uninstall IOS, you will brick your wii
Never Uninstall IOS, you will brick your wii
Select "WAD Manager" - Press A
Press (1) to "Install all Wads" - Press A
19 wads should install without issue
    "Press any button to continue"
Be sure all the wads install, very important
If the wads fail to install, install 1 at a time
Press B two times- main menu
Never Uninstall IOS, you will brick your wii
Never Uninstall IOS, you will brick your wii

Step-5 Install Priiloader (brick protection, you need this)
Read the warning- press A to install
    Reboot wii, priiloader should load
Hold reset and boot wii to load priiloader if needed
    Select Hacks- Press A
Enable "Block Disk Updates", and "Block Online Updates", others if you like
If you don't know what the hack does- you don't need it.
Your wii should now block Disk update and online update.
Outdated Channels will ask for updates
NEVER UPDATE YOUR WII FROM NINTENDO- read the forum and do it yourself
Note: Prilloader installer gives two errors-
    /loader.ini couldn't delete error -106
    /password.txt couldn't delete error -106

*This is not an issue, and is expected*

    Optional priiloader settings-
Autoboot to HBC- Click settings, set auto-boot and return to HBC. Your wii now boots to HBC.
Autoboot to USBloader-GX- click load/install, install usbloader-gx.dol, goto settings, set autoboot/return to installed file. Your boots into usbloader-gx. This is great for kids.
You can auto-boot to any app you like.

Step* Optional- DARKCORP installation: Join the Dark Side of the wii!!!
DARKCORP enables backup disks to be loaded from the wii disk channel, without using a loader.
Newer wiis may not support DVD media, this will not fix this limitation.

    Download DARKCORP_v1.1_Full.zip, extract to sd:\
Read the READ-ME first, install from HBC
    Use IOS249 to Install/Upgrade Darkcorp 1.1, and Wiigator's or Waninkoko's cmios for gc-games
*DARKCORP can used in conjunction with usb loading methods*
*USB loading is faster and is the general preferred method*

Step* Possible- Reinstall HBC (if inverted)
Reinstall HBC if screen is up side down
    Load HBC, Launch Hackmii Installer
    Install HBC
    Exit

    Final Step- Clean Up SD-Card
    To Prevent accidental System modification
    Backup and Format the SD-CARD
    ExtractClean-SD-Card.zip to sd:\
This will prevent your kids, friends, wife, and yourself from doing stupid stuff.

    Loading Backups FAQ:
You Must load from a loader, or have installed darkcorp
New wiis cannot load from disk
Cios: you have 222/223 v4 for the games that need it
    ios249= cios38 -17
ios250= cios57 -19 for those who wish to use it

    Apps you may like:

    WiiMC- Multimedia Player
    HomeBrew Browser- DL many Apps

    Must read Guides:
Brick Prevention- Things you should never do

Loading and Playing Wii Backup Games from USB HDD

First of all thanks for reposting the guide.. Luckily I printed a hardcopy this morning.. With some help of Terminatria, who had the joy of fixing it this afternoon, I was able to install everything!

A few pointers for ppl who are having trouble installing:
    - I used Indiana Jones.
    - MMM is a frustrating program. It took me at least 10 reboots this afternoon to get to step 3. Although frustrating, there is nothing you can do about it. Once you are beyond step 2 you can change the AutoLoad line to IOS236. IOS15 seems to have trouble loading a lot and IOS236 loaded the first time for me. You need it for step 3 anyway
    - For step 3, installing IOS15 caused the rest to fail here. I suggest installing that one first (and alone), then go back to see if IOS236 is still loaded, then open WAD manager again and select the other 4 wad files and install them. That should work
    - All the other steps went perfect here!

Once again thanks for everything and I hope my pointers help ppl still having troubles..

in my case, once it completed this step once, I received this error every time I tried after.

Anyways, homebrew and all of it's goodies are installed now. Wanted to say thanks to all involved.

Now that 4.3u is hacked and working, should I still consider downgrading from 4.3 to 4.1 or older?

    Thanks again

This is still a new a hack, so the best advice I can give is to just give it a few days until most of the kinks are worked out and things have slowed down. Personally I'm just going to leave my Wii alone until after this weekend. I hope that by that time things will be slightly easier.

Thanks though mauifrog, and all the other people that have helped get 4.3 working!

    Thanks in advance

Also I would like to share my experience in getting this softmod hack to work.

Firstly, get yourself a GC controller. You might get around the wii controller sync issues by adding the following to the mmmconfig file in the base directory of the pack '
AutoLoadIOS=80' (use a text editor to change it), but really if you plan on playing classic nintendo games you will need one anyway.

Side note on GC controller and wii equivalent:
A and B are a given on both, GC Z=+ on wii, X=1 and Y=2 (gained this info from posts and trial and error).

Secondly some of the issues that I ran into while going through the steps:

I used the Indiana Pwns hack and it took me a good couple of dozen reboots in order to get all of the steps to work without crashing.

[MMM] Multi-Mod-Manager is buggy, it crashed around 1 in 3 tries (black screen and blue light on wii). Considering you have to load the MMM several times over the stages, be prepared to reset your wii and go through stage 1 quite a lot.

At stage 2.1-2.2 TPR was buggy as well for me as well when I tried to run it(stack error and dump, lots of numbers) Reboot, load game and force crash/overflow, Basically start again. Fourth try and TPR worked.

Downgrade of IOS 15 went fine as per instructions right up until "press any key to exit" Did so and had another crash and memory dump.

Reset the wii, loaded game, forced the crash, loaded mmm and selected "Load another IOS" - load ios15. Screen responded loading IOS 15 and it froze at that point.
Rebooted back to MMM, Tried Load another IOS again and no problems.
Set the 54321 in the next part of the step and from there it was plain sailing to the end.

Just posting this to let ppl know that with a little patience (and a lot of running to the indiana jones art room) it can be done.

N.B. Truly a massochist here as my wii has a modchip installed and I did it for fun?

Once again well played to all that helped make this hack possible.

    Cheers Dan

I don't have a GC controller, but the mmmconfig fix worked for me. I had pretty much the same issues as Toidi posted up right before me.

Like Toidi, I had a hard time getting MMM to load (often got a black screen and solid DVD slot light) but I found it'd start somewhat reliably if I unplugged the wii between attempts.

I had some more of the same crashes while using MMM and TBR. I got a little concerned because I wasn't sure what settings/config/installs (or whatever I was doing) had stuck and I wasn't sure where to start over.

Later on, I had a big n00b moment and restarted bootmii because it wouldn't connect to the wiimote (didn't realize that it only used a GC controller or the hardware buttons) and then I had to reinstall HBC.

I must of got off track from the guide somewhere because I wasn't sure how to get the wii to boot straight to the HBC instead of bootmii. Eventually I found a guide and now powering on the wii takes me straight to usb loader gx, which was my intention all along.

Thanks again, to Mauifrog and the rest of the wii hacking scene that made this all possible.

I just bought my virgin 4.3(well, it WAS 4.2 until I clicked thru the stoopid update) black wii last Sunday, and I thought it would be a month before I was able to mod. Right now I just played my first game from backup disc and i got the rest of the day off work! Only took me 6 hrs, and I've never modded anything before. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Here's a couple tips for the other n00bs out there that are thinking about giving this a shot. The guide is almost perfect, just read ALL the posts and keep them in mind when you start the process. I read all 29 pages at least twice thru before starting, and then probably twice more while I was waiting for MMM to reload (which will happen a lot!)

Tip #1 - Don't freak out about the black screen and solid blue light. You didn't brick. You'll probably end up holding down the pwr button and resetting a good 30+ times, as was in my case.

Tip #2 - Copy the code into the txt file to get your Wiimote working. I couldn't always find corresponding buttons that matched my GC controller. The posts have mappings, but they seemed inconsistent and the Wiimote worked best.

Tip #3 - You might have to switch to a different ISO to get TBR to load, at least I did. There's posts about this in the thread.

And finally, don't plow through the steps cause you're excited! especially if you're a n00b. If you question something, just read. I guarantee with a couple brain cells and this thread you'll find the answer.

Great job, mauifrog! You guys that come up with these hacks operate on a whole different level imo. I don't know how you do it, but I'm sure glad you did!

Also the ongoing support of the ppl who are in the know in this thread has to be applauded. Especially when you are dealing with an ever growing group of individuals who voice their concerns and problems with scant disregard to the previous 200 posts in the thread (that dealt with their particular issue over and over again).
We live in a society that is becoming more and more lazy and yet more demanding at the same time. For all you noobs out there (like me) RTFM, didn't work? Read ALL of the posts in this thread and THINK before posting, your problem has been flagged/discussed and solved at least 90% of the time beforehand.

Remember the guys who made this hack possible are under no obligation to give anyone diddly squat. They released it for our benefit and have continued to provide ongoing support free of charge. At the very least we should read all posts in this thread and try all possibilities before reporting a problem.

Anyway crazy rant over Thx to all concerned in allowing me 4 hours of my life visiting the art room countless times in order to load up proof of concept proggys (my wii is hard modded). It was probably the most frustrating and yet enjoyable time I have had in a very long time.

P.S. mauifrog maybe you could add a little bit to the intro of your excellent tut with regards to buggy MMM and TBR, I am sure it would help reduce a lot of the standard posts regarding crashes and stack dumps.

    Peace Danny..

mauifrog...for some reason when i turned my wii on i got these messages:
    cBoot2 DOL loader v16
    IOS version 36
    IOS successfully loaded
    ...
it showed some more stuff here
    ....
    then it loaded loadMii ...
I had to exit that before i got to the Wii Menu.
It didn't do that before.. I used to see a screen saying Wii... Homebrew.. Setting..

I reinstalled the bootmii as IOS and boot2 throught loadmii..but these icons are not there anymore...It goes to Press A screen of Wii right away to get to the Wii menu.
I have a feeling that it is not booting right or something and that's why is not loading with 5 connections...

Much like some of the other users who have posted in this thread, I had foolishly updated my Wii after freshly connecting to the internet. I was on 4.2u and was running HBC with no problems. Like some other users on the site, I'm fairly uneducated when it comes to this material.

I don't have SSBB or Lego Indy (went to local blockbuster.. rentals are $9! .. plus none were available). Without SSBB or Lego Indiana Jones, is it still possible for me to get to LoadMii via my SD card? I don't understand what Option 3 is telling me, and I don't have a PreLoader installed. Do I have to wait for another major breakthrough such as a functional Bannerbomb?

Thank, and sorry about posting such a vague message... in all honesty, I didn't really all 22 pages

edit: Oh yeah...I just moved and don't have access to my original disks, and probably won't for some time. What types of games work with option 4?

I have tried the smash stack way to do this, however it won't me install ANY of the Wads. I tried to uninstall them all and reinstall them like you told a previous poster to do, but to no avail. Any info on how to make the wads install?

That was cboot2 from my download pack, that means you have boot2 bootmii which is good. The installation of bootmii would have removed the cboot2 files, so it does not boot straight to loadmii. This sounds like everything is as it should be.
