I followed R5 (smash) and was able to softmod the wii perfectly (minus the following: optional downgrade to 4.1, Step 6 - brick protection, and the optional clean up card step). Even so, I was able to load back up games using a flash drive with no problems and assumed everything was working great.

As it was late and as I did not have a large enough SD card at the time, I was meaning to make a NAND back up and do Step 6 and the clean up step the next day. I come home from work the following day and my son was trying to play the Wii. Not sure what happened but I noticed the wiimote's light flashing repeatedly and proceeded to turn off the Wii and restart.

It loads to the Loadmii screen I believe (with the option to select Wii, HBC, SD card, etc). Well upon selecting either Wii or HBC, it just stops working and my tv loses the video source. I then decide to load the clean SD card file to the SD card (and I realize it was my mistake in not making a back up first). Now I can't even get to the loadmii screen from before and my tv recognizes no video from the wii.

Am I completely bricked or is there anyway around this?

    Edit:
Clarification......it loaded to BootMii not Loadmii (as per my previous post).

In either case.....I found a copy of the bootmii folder/files on this board and am now able to boot to the BootMii screen. I am still stuck at this screen and can not select Wii or the HBC. If I did not make a NAND back up, is there anyway I can fix this?
I wonder what your son did?
Well, you have boot2 bootmii, so you should be good.
Backup and format the sd card
    Extract cboot2_wadmanager_1.5_mod.zip to sd:\
    Extract (4.1u)-System Menu-NUS-v449.zip to sd:\wad
    Extract cIOS60-v6174.zip to sd:\wad
Boot the wii, you'll need a gc-controller by the way
    Wadmanager will load
    Select ios249
    Install cios60
    then install
    SM 4.1u
    Then reinstall priiloader
    Priiloader_0.4_BB2.zip

    4.3e won't read games

I have a modchip and semibricked wii ( multiple news channels ect) . I tried to follow this guide, bought game and gc controller, put in Indiana game and then found out my wii won't read backups or origionals. Anyone else had this? And is there a way to fix ?

Make sure the game is in the region of the wii, it must be the same region. What kind of modchip? Some times people have trouble with the chips after the update. Also, if it is semi bricked, what makes you think it is 4.3e? There is no 4.3e on disk, perhaps 4.2.

Sysmenu is 4.3e. And I'm trying pal games ... I just remembered something though. Wii chip was the d2c-2. And the guy said he needed to replace the DVD drive for the mod to work. Think that's my problem ?

I don't know your problem, you said your semi-bricked which makes no sense. Make a thread in the bricked wii section for help. Give a good description of your issue, past and present. You will get help there, this is not the right place.

    Question

I currently have 3.4U. Would it be best for me to softmod my current firmware, or upgrade to 4.3 and use this tutorial? If i should stay with what i have, could anybody direct me to the tutorial i should use?

Hmm perhaps its time for a "Do not Update to 4.3" warning in this thread...(Seeing as no one reads the comments) Linking to your Softmod for ANY Wii guide?
    Damn I suck!!!!
