plug your hdd to your computer download wii back up manager....load it...load your hdd through it...and it should display the game id for the game....
its 6 characters....
I modded my wii(~1 month old black wii updated to 4.3e) last night following mauifrog(sp?) guide, as easier and quicker than I was expecting.
I formatted my ~4year old wd mybook 320gb into 2 partitions(268gb ntfs, 30gb fat32) using window vista's own disk management not the program suggested in the guide, I initially had the ntfs partition as the active partition so cfg loader channel wasn't starting and I had to go through homebrew channel to load it but changing the active partition sorted that out.
I first tried the cfg loader as it's included in the app pack from the softmod guide, I was able to install/rip my games(super mario galaxy 2, mario kart wii, goldeneye, lego indiana jones, wii sports and wii sports resort) to the fat32 partition and play them. when I tried doing that with the ntfs partition it gave the not enough space error and showing 0.0gb of 268gb remaining, also putting games in a \wbfs folder on the partition is giving the no games found error.
I then tried the usb loader gx but starting it up it says no wbfs/fat32/ntfs partition found(or words to that effect), selecting the ntfs partion gives the dsi exception error(think it's that error, been a few hours since I tried it). selecting the fat32 partition is not showing any of the games on it.
I have a brand new wd mypassport essentials 500gb drive, it's for my dad but I'm going to stick a game or two on to it and check that it's not a issue with my 320gb drive.
edit: I tried loading usb loader gx again and it's now showing the games on the fat32 partition(is now loading the fat32 partition when I start usb loader gx), any way I can change between partitions? on the cfg loader you can choose which partition to use.

for best compatibility with loader first partition fat32 second ntfs....both set to primary and active....
the partition giving you error shows you didnt format right .....
gx is not provided in the guide as its no good for fat32 or ntfs loading ....
thanks for the reply, I'll try re-partitioning and reformatting the drive to see if it works. I thought you could only have 1 partition as active not both, tho both partitions can be primary.
thats what i ment ..
I haven't re-partioned or re-formatted yet, tried the wd my passport 500gb drive and it's still showing 0 game/no games found(depending on gx or cfg used). I've tried upgrading the cfg loader from v58 to v62b2(did that last night before I tried the new drive) but still not reading the ntfs, when I tried the new drive got the fat1 partition not found choose partition to use(so I chose the nfts1 partition).
for tranfering the games to the ntfs partition(or a new drive) which are already in .wbfs I don't need to use the wii game manager or wii backup manager do I? as all I've done is copied over the game folder to the wbfs folder on the ntfs partition, have tried both gameid_gametitle and gametitle[gameid] for the folder of the game also tried just putting the gameid.wbfs file into the wbfs folder on the drive(tried that on the 500gb drive not the 320gb drive).
before I do commit to the re-partition and re-format, am I missing something and need to install a missing ciso etc? I'm thinking of just going all fat32 but wanted ntfs for the games larger than 4gb so didn't have to worry about breaking it down into 'smaller parts'.
Hello again guys. Windows took a dump on me, so I had to deal with that.
Here is where I am. I think I missed a step during the 4.3 mod. I thought all the Hermes stuff was installed, but maybe not.
When I go to lauch a game from the HDD, I get the message: Error: cIOS249rev18, cIOS222v4, cIOS223v4, cIOS224v5 or higher required for starting games from a FAT partition (or in my case NTFS). UPgrade IOS249 or choose a different IOS. Is this as simple as finding the proper walkthrough? If so, may I please have a link?
Next, it seems I have to have my SD card in the slot for CFG to even load from the Configurable USB Loader channel. I am going to guess I need to move those files from the SD to the USB? Please advise before I hose this up again. :-)
I appreciate the help guys. I opened a Paypal account with an offer for $20.00 to already be loaded. I am giving it to this forum. It's more than earned. :-)

you cant use 249 version as yours is rev17...if you want to use another ios on boot add this to config.txt
ios = xxx you have a choice of 223/224/247/248/250

Okay, I've got everything figured out and set, with the exception of one thing: When loading the Configurable USB Loader channel, it still refuses to load from the USB HDD. It wants to load from the SD card...and if the SD card is not present, nothing happens. Black screen.
How do I fix this? Do I need a different forwarder?
Just to add: I updated the ios249 to rv19. Because of this, I used the CFG 249[Extract Directly to the root of USB].rar file and extracted that to the HDD. Here is what my config.exe looks like after I added stuff I wanted:
clock_style = 12am
confirm_start = 0
theme = GreyMatter
gui = start
gui_transition = fade
gui_style = flow
gui_rows = 2
device = usb
ntfs_write = 1
return_to_channel = UCXF
write_playlog = 1
Still, the channel wants to load from the SD. It's like the USB isn't even in the search order.
So, any suggestions are readily welcome.
Thanks a bunch.
Anyone still following? I've run out of ideas, and reinstalls of everything has not worked. Pulling the SD card and activating the CFG channel (using v60) will not boot from the HDD. The structure of the apps folder and the cfg-loader dir are the same on the HDD as they are on the card.
Please use the Edit function.
