can someone please just answer a couple quick basic questions for me please
first of all is there a better tutorial for this, one that is more up to date?, i would rather have 2 partitions, 1 larger ntfs for games and a smaller fat32 for homebrew programs

but what i really want to know is

do any of, or all of the usb loaders (wiiflow, cfg,gx) automatically scrubb the games automatically when you rip them from disc? or will i need to connect the drive to my pc after and scrubb them there?

and does it matter what type of parition you are ripping the games to? like will the usb loader only rip and automatically scrubb the games if they are being ripped to a certain type of partition?

can i rip directly to a ntfs partition with a usb loader and have the game be scrubbed automatically?

cause the faq in the tutorial is confusing and contradictory

    cause here it says

"Q. Can I use .iso or do I have to convert to .wbfs?

A.You can use .iso's under 4GB's but there is no point. Using .WBFS files will save space on your drive. The manager will convert from .iso to .wbfs automatically. "

what do they mean by "the manager" do they mean the wbfs manager that you put on your pc? or do they really mean usbloader ,and not the wbfs manager for your pc?this is too vague

cause after reading THIS it looks like the usb loders do it automatically

"Q. Can I install a game from Disc to FAT32 in .wbfs format?

    A. Yes, install normally."

but after reading the other faq question i posted, and this one below

"Q. Why would I use FAT32 when WBFS scrubs the game to a smaller size?

    A. It doesn't! The file size once converted to .wbfs will be the same or smaller then the file loaded to the WBFS drive. Converting to .wbfs format uses the same compression method as a WBFS drive and outputs the same file format."

where it says "once converted" which seems to imply that it will not be converted automatically ,i am really confuesed

so do the usb loaders rip the games AND scrubb them automatically all in one step ? or do i have to rip them and then connect the hdd to my pc and scrubb them with a program on my pc,like the wbfs manager or wii scrubber?

and does it matter which type of partition i use to rip to?
like will it rip and automatically scrubb games if you rip to a fat32 partition ,but not to a ntfs,or the other way around?

Wow bostonoob, you really do have yourself confused...lol. I think you are over analyzing a lot and have gotten some things mixed up, so I will try my best to explain everything.

    1. This tutorial is not out of date. What you are wanting to do with the formatting (NTFS and FAT32) just makes things slightly more difficult on yourself, but can be done.
    2. I cant speak for every loader out there but I know CFG will rip just the game partition. (AKA Scrubbing). Make sure this line is added to the config.txt file with no quotation marks: "install_partitions = only_game"
    3. CFG will rip your game to whatever partition you have it set on.

As far of the bottom half of your post, I think you are over complicating things.

Using Wii Backup Manager (PC program) you can take your iso and convert it to .wbfs. It gives you the option as to what partitions to save. If you select the game only partition you will be essentially "scrubbing" your game. Scrubbing is nothing more than removing built in system update data etc that has nothing to do with the actual game. Makes no difference if you put the resulting .wbfs file on a fat32 or ntfs drive. It will be exactly the same. Only difference between the two is that fat32 has a limit of 4GB files, therefore anything larger than that will have to be split in two (once again Wii Backup Manager does that).

A WBFS "DRIVE" is an older way to save games on an external drive. The drive had to be formatted using an external program, and windows just plain couldn't see it without that program. Advances in the hacking community have made WBFS formatted drives obsolete, since now you can use fat32/ntfs and have all the advantages of using windows to make changes, do defrags, etc.

I hope this cleared up some of your questions. I know it didnt address all of them, but please read up on what I said and then post back anything else you are still confused about. Were all happy to help.

And BTW these are not quick basic questions. Takes a lot of time and reading to understand what you are doing. Being patient is the best idea here.

it say that this will only work with Hermes cIOS 222/223

are there any games that WONT run on Fat32 formatted hard drive, ie because they require a different cIOS?
