    Cool About FAT32 setups...

Although it can be done, it is not recommended to format a drive Larger then 1TB to FAT32. 2TB is the Maximum.
Looking to setup my Wii for future full Wii usage... From what I've read, FAT32 offers all the options available so it must be the best format to use... I am now looking to get a Wii exclusive USB external HD to run everything from... Since the price between external HD's are not to high between 1TB & 2TB.. I am leaning on finding a good deal on a 2TB external HD that has been proven to work fully with Wii's....

But the sentence above, in the Intro gives me paused that I might be buying to much TB's that won't be used/useful because of the FAT32 limits... Am I reading to much on to the " it is not recommended to format a drive Larger then 1TB to FAT32" or is it fine to use a full 2TB HD exclusively on a Wii... Any limitation on this... Can it be on a single partition or does it have to be split up or can one have a FAT32 Partition to run most basic Wii Hack stuff on it & have a NTFS Partition on the same drive for non-game-backup files like movies, etc... Trying to figured out before buying a Wii external drive..

Either will work. You shouldn't ever need over 1TB of FAT32 Space though so that's why I say that in the guide. I would go with half FAT32 half NTFS if I were you with a 2TB HDD but it will work either way.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Great... Thanks a lot for u'r guide... And great response time... Just for clarification... If running everything needed from FAT32.... Would movie, other non game files in the NTFS be available at the same time but with different cIOS's and vice versa.... Or does it have be a manual switch where you can only choose one or the other...

    [NTFS Disadvantages]

    • Homebrew channel can't load apps off NTFS formatted HDD
    • No Nand Emulation
Seems the main parts missing from NTFS is just those two... So wonder if NTFS can be main Partition & then use FAT32 for those two parts...

Well you can use both at the same time overall...I use NTFS and FAT32 HDD's depeding on what I'm doing and for testing. So you can switch if you need to.

Well you can only set one as active at a time and it should be active if your USB loader is using it or a program like WiiMC.

Does this mean that both partition would need the usb loader when switching between them or one would just need to change the active partition from the main USB loader... Is restarting the Wii or HD required when doing the switches.. Or is it all handle withing all the softmods...

'Im sorry I don't understand the question. Everything on wii can be ran from the FAT32 partition set to active no problem. You can use the NTFS partition for PC things.

Or just format the entire thing to FAT32....another option would be say a 50GB FAT32 partition and the rest NTFS.....games loaded from NTFS and NAND emulation and hombrew from FAT32...it all depends on what you want to do with the drive.

This guide is going to get an update soon..within the next week or so and will include partitioning for an NTFS and FAT32 partition on the same drive (if you are familiar with Easeus this van be done without a guide) along with some other changes.

Was thinking about the split partition option... 50GB FAT32 / 1.7TB NTFS sounds great.. I just thought that if one choose to start the Wii from the FAT32 side or NTFS side one couldn't use the data on the other partition, like if I want to watch movie on the NTFS and then go into NAND Emu in the FAT32 there was a wall between them...

Can't wait for the update... Since its very likely I'll order the HD drive online... It should be arriving at the same time of the update.... Thanks again for the great info... Will await the update.... Glad to be part of this community....

Ok so you are interested in the small FAT32 partition with the rest NTFS? You would want to look at the NTFS guide for that.

Or you could wait for the update to this guide and adjust the instructions accordingly. I have not tried an NTFS partition that is not set to active but it might works for movies with the wii....I really don't know. But as I said, FAT32 can be used for everything if it's primary and set to active.

Smile Wiiflow and usb drive with fat32

I need a little advice, I have been using wiiflow for while now and have started to use wiiflow 2.2. The problem i am getting is it crashes alot now and is slow. ( currently on a WSBF format.)
I have read that if I use FAT32 for wiiflow this will cure it. Do i just reformat the drive to fat32 and have a WSBF folder on the root with the games in it in their WSBF file format ?
My first post so please forgive me if this seems trivial.......
