ok i got all my games on my fat32 formatted drive (seagate freeagent pro 500GB) in folders like this:

    usb:/wbfs/Game title [GAMEID]/GAMEID.wbfs

works good seems to be more stable than using a wbfs formatted drive so far....

***but im having trouble getting wiiflow and my homebrew apps working on the usb drive (so i dont have to have an SD card in all the time)
if i put my apps/ folder and wiiflow on the usb it doesnt work? i load up homebrew channel and theres no apps? also wiiflow doesnt work either from my forwarder channel (carbonik-Nforwarder58-WFBJ.wad downloaded from the wiiflow website and installed with wad manager 1.5/1.7 tried both)
if i have all my apps/wiiflow on the USB drive and no SD card installed no apps are listed when i launch homebrew and wiiflow freezes most of the time when i try and start it from my forwarder channel forcing me to power off the wii by holding the power button doen on the console?

im using wiiflow v2.2 loaded with 249 v20 (base 57) i tried installing 249 v20 (base 56) but wiiflow still says its using base 57??? also in wiiflow it says under ios 250 its 250 v20b (base 53???) even though i installed base 250 v20 base 57 with wad manager not sure whats goin on there????

anyways i really want to be able to just use my USB HDD for everything and not have a SD card any advice from you guys would be great

Hi I have just followed this guide and after figuring out I had to use IOS222 version all is working well. I have successfully transferred .ISO files with wii backup manager and downloaded cover art which is very nice.

BUT I am having one problem. I am backing up (dumping) my original wii games to the Wii HDD and it is taking a LONG time. Wii sports resort (which is like .38GB) took 15 minutes. Now I am copying donkey kong country returns which is 3.34GB and estimated time is 2 hours!!! I have read several times it shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes to copy a game.

What could be wrong? Also I am using v60 of configurable USB loader, I saw there was v62 out so I tried to update (within the program). It updated and when I restarted the program it came up to just a black screen and froze there. In the list of update options I specifically clicked V62 222 since I am successfully using 222 on v60. I have since reverted back to working v60.

Thank you for any help and hopefully I am posting this in the right section

Using this guide, you can put anything else you want on the drive.

I followed all the steps so far and I've got a question.

In the tutorial, at the Wii Game Manager part, it says:

"If the file is over 4 GB it needs to be split in 2 because you cant load anything above 4GB from FAT32 (SSBB & Metroid Prime Trilogy).
Right Click one of the iso's in Wii Game Manager and select split in two."

All the .iso files are ovef 4Gb. So should I split them all, or do you mean 'if the estimated size (which is smaller than the 4.37Gb .iso file) is still larger than 4Gb you need to split?
Furthermore, if I need to split, do I pick: 2gb-32k split, or 4gb-32k split?

Final question, how is it possible that for instance a game like New Super Mario Bros. has an 4.37Gb .iso file, but the estimated file (as .wbfs file is only 360Mb. Is the game corrupt then? How can that possibly be the full game?)

Thank you in advance, all the tutorials on this website have been an amazing help.

If you moved all your apps to USB, just boot up HBC and press 1 on the wiimote and you can choose SD or USB.

Some files after converting will be larger than 4 gig. Wii Backup Manager will split them for you. I would use the 4 gig split. Less files in the folder that way. Games off disc will be smaller than the disc because of dummy files and update files. Filler files basically to bring the disc up to 4.6 gig. There's a thread here on the site that explains it better, but yes, you are getting the full game.

Ill give it another try I just gave up and put all my apps and wiiflow back on the SD

If it works I cant believe i missed something that simple LOL

    edit...

gave it another go, moved all my apps to the HDD and started the wii, went into homebrew pressed 1 on wiimote and chose usb HDD and it worked my apps showed up..... started wiiflow and it worked to...

but i then powered off my wii and then turned it back on and no dice didnt work

i think its my HDD not starting up properly cause when i loaded homwbrew again and pressed 1 USB was greyed out as in its not registering that its connected to the wii even though the lights are on on the USB drive????

so i swaped back to havin my apps on the SD and games on the USB HDD only and it works??? very strange ill get arround to testing it on another USB drive later but for now it works with just the games on the USB and apps/wiiflow/covers etc... on the SD

Mine does the same thing. Sometimes you have to wait for the wifi and HDD to spin up.
