To see your region you just click on the options button in the bottom left corner of wii menu... Click on settings and look in the top right corner of screen to see menu version... If your wii is japanese it should say 4.2J, american-4.2U etc... if it does not say 4.2(x) then this guide is not for you.

hello, Just to let everyone know. I just virginized my Wii from the softmodd and guess what yes the softmodding was the problem to why I couldnt get the wifi to work becasue it is working. So you might not want to tell people that is NOt the problem becasue it was. Others maybe having this issue and alls they need to do it unistall it and start over. Now my next question is I saved everything I softmodded with on my computer can I just use it to rehack and soft mod it again or should I start all over and install the files again like the install section has?

thank you again for this section on how to virginize the Wii very easy to do and great walk through

Post Thank you for this guide!

I softmodded my 4.2E in hopes of playing some game backups but after fiddling around a bit I realized that my Wii came with the new DVD drive chipset "D3-2" since I could not load any DVD-R .

At this point I also noticed that the DVD channel (the one were we load the original DVD games from) started showing a message of "System Update Required" every time I loaded an original game.

For this reason I though of reverting my Wii to it's "virgin" state and do a clean softmodd (without trying to get the player to run DVD-R's but also keeping the DVD channel loader intact).

I followed your guide to the letter, well almost.. I forgot to perform the below step:

[ B3)You still need to remove the preloader hacks, so go back to the homebrew channel and run NAND clean. Press 'A' for everything. If it says "couldn't find that file" on any or all of them it's ok! It just means you didn't have preloader installed. ]

Everything else was done according to this guide and I have my Wii back to it's (almost 100%) virgin state.

I will now begin resoftmodding my Wii and try out some backup's via USB Loader.

I had a mod chip installed this week but some games like super mario brothers and a few others only give me a black screen. The chip installer said that my softmod is preventing some of the newer games from working. I will need to dig to see what versions I am running.
Can I remove the soft mod and viginize the wii? Would this remove all the necessary softmod files and possibly solve the problem?
If I need to supply more info just let me know. thanks
