Yes U6 feeds the display connector. All signal go through the capacitors on the otherside of the board.
With your equipment it should not be hard to remove that damn chip. Did not work out for me as the bottom of the chip is soldered to Ground.
Any good tips how to remove it with a hot air station only without pre-heater?

small BGA nozzle that will let you warm whole chip at once. use heat reflective tape to cover everything around the chip, then heat it very gently so you bring the temp up slowly... might be working making something to hold the hot air handle in place while you adjust temp.

    similar to this - http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/a...station004.jpg

pic isnt my setup, its just one i saw recently.

Also, I currently do not have any Wii boards to steal parts from, if different AV cable does not work, i will put this wii aside until i have a board to steal parts from.

nozzle you will want something like this - Aoyue Replacement Hot Air Nozzle BGA 27 x 27 mm on eBay (end time 25-Mar-10 07:55:31 GMT)

that is just a guess at the size, you will need to find the correct size if that one is too small/large.

also, when replacing the chip you will need to reconnect the underside of the chip using something like - DealExtreme: $3.57 LodeStar Soldering Paste (50g)

I will try it to slowly increase the heat, have a small bga nozzle but that maybe just to small. However I have plenty of donorboards to test with

    more info:

Wii remote doesnt sync if i boot wii and press sync buttons, which assuming the wii boots normally but just doesnt output video/sound then i would expect it to sync as normal?

(this isnt without further testing, just info i remembered while at my "real" job)

Well it should if you get to h&s screen but we don't know what is on the wii. It could be even preloader that shows its menu ...
without a display it is hard to tell what is wrong

Good point, Wii is of unknown history before I got my hands on it.

Maybe ill try using cboot2 dol loader to load something with sound, see if i get anything from that.

    Also, I have another question.
Do you have any experiance with Wii remotes? I have a couple that if you put in batteries and start it up, the lights start blinking as normal, then they go out one at a time until its just player 1 led lit, which then slowly fades out.

Once this has happened, taking out batteries and replacing has no effect, you need to remove batteries for a hour or 2, then it will do the same thing again.

Ive not had time to fault find this yet, but figured if you have already come across it, saves some time.

I have also a bunch of those at home and still headbanging on them. Same problem and I also have one that does not even power up.
In fact I got another one with an older style board which did not work. It was sold with no sync fault. At home it did not even power up. When I opened it and tapped against the bluetooth part it worked again. But no sync to to the wii. After applying liquid flux and heat to the bluetooth chip it works again without any problems.
So my guess at the faulty ones is that something is wrong in the bluetooth or even the motion sensor part.

Edit: maybe we should open a separate thread about fixing wii motes like this?
