    with Drivekey

The default priloader settings will prevent you from loading the config menu on a Drivekey.

No, since games on a HDD already have their updates stripped out. However, removing priiloader will allow updates to happen (be it disc or online) again if/when there is a newer update out. Secondly, if you do not have bootmii installed as boot2, un-installing priiloader leaves you with no brick protection.

I would rather have priiloader installed, but my system version is 3.4u. I am not that tech-savvy, and I just wonder if priiloader is worth updating the system and/or risking the additional steps.
So far I`ve done dogeggs` softmod any wii guide up to step 3. I had to install bootmii as an IOS.
My ultimate goal is to load games from a hdd via USBloaderGX with its own channel. Can I do that without Priiloader? Should I just go ahead and update to version 4.1?

Priiloader isn't required to load backups but it provides awesome system hacks and great brick protection. I'd recommend you upgrade using the safe updater (Step 4 in DogEggs' tutorial) and install it.

Super quick question... in the first post you've got the following:

Q: Can I install Preloader on Any System Menu?
A: No, Preloader can only be installed on 3.2, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 System Menus. Installing it on any other can cause a brick. EDIT: Priiloader v0.4 is said to work on all System Menus but there are no hacks.ini yet!
Is this still the case with 0.4 (rev 78)? Can I use the appropriate hacks.ini file if I load up 0.4?

Also, should I even use 0.4? or stay with 0.3b?

    Thanks!

Your question or statement is self-answering, isn't it? FWIW, it's best to have a SM capable of supporting the hacks... you should really post an Intro over in the Introduction Sections, don't ya think?

"WBFS1 not found" error, despite previous game plays

My Wii serial is LU51 ...
I have a 4.2 and I had my Wii hacked @ my friend's house. I Used the Wad manager 1.5, Anytitle deleter 1.1 I also had to downgrade on my IOS15 (with the Trucha bug) and everything worked fine. I played my games for a while at my friend's house and then shut it down. Now am back at home and I setup again to play but I got the "WBFS1 not found error". I know what the error means but am not sure why that happened. Could anyone give me some ideas as I do not want to use another method other than my friend had done on my Wii for fear of conflict/brick reasons?
Also am not sure if he did the boot2 stuff for me to prevent/restore a full brick in case it happens. How do I know that I have the Boot2 deal setup on my WII? And how do I confirm I have the NAND backp? By the way my friend is now taking some exams and has gone incommunicado!

Any and all help is appreciated.

i could be wrong but i am gonna try to give you the answers as i understand them.
    1. wbfs not found - make sure your hdd is in the right usb port, also make sure it is formated with wbfs and has iso's stored on it. i believe only usbloader gx is capable of reading non-wbfs partitions. use wbfs manager to verify partition and iso's on drive (on your pc).
    2. if you wish to see if you have priiloader brick protection simply power on your wii while holding the reset button. you will get the priiloader menu if so.
    3. nand backup- usually stored on your sd card. simply put in your pc and look for a nand.bin file

    Thanks Kindred.
    1. Well I am aware of the selective nature of the usb ports on the Wii console and have confirmed it is the right one. The wrong port normally shows me a screen telling me to change the port. On the WBFS format issue, I ended up purchasing a new WD 640GB Hdd and partitioned it in two almost equal parts. I copied in the original files I had backed up off the older hdd (which ofcourse worked @ my friends house as I mentioned earlier), and then hooked it back up on the Wii and had the same "WBFS1 not found error" message. Now am sure my HDD is not on the required format. Am thinking I will have to do the usbloader gx thing but am not sure how to (especially with the fear of conflict using two different methods for this installation). Also I will appreciate the know hows for the use of WBFS manager specifically under my current situation. Pls note that I tried to rip my Wii sports CD for a test run on the Wii-formatted partition of my HDD (ie WBFS format) and the rip was successful but when I try to play it I get the 222 missing mload message (Ret - 4100).
    2. I do not think I have the Prilloader brick protection and I consider this priority before any further installation- I need how to...?
    3. I have checked all my files and I do not see any NAND backup both in my SD and PC. Is it late to do my original backup?

I also read about the thread below. Duuno if that should be a safer route to go or not.
How to remove softmods and make your Wii a virgin
