USB Loader GX can use either IOS249 or IOS222, so after you install the HERmes IOS, you can see if USB Loader GX plays more of your problem games using IOS222 than under IOS249. uLoader is designed to work under the Hermes IOS only now that it disables IOS249. Some people, after installing the Hermes IOS, use that exclusively for playing all their games whether they load under USB Loader GX, uLoader, or configurable USB Loader-that is why I said you should experiment with various loaders after installing the Hermes IOS.

All customized IOSes install as an IOS in the 200 range of numbers. When you did your softmod-Step 3 installed the Trucha Bug that allowed for a cIOS based on the Wii's stock or core IOS 38 to be installed as IOS249. The cIOS is the IOS that has been customized (modified) to support some software-based function that we want in the Wii. The cIOS installer is a homebrew application programmed to install the cIOS in the designated IOS position. Waninkoko's cIOS versions were programmed to load into the IOS249 position and all cIOS36 and cIOS38 installers install the custom IOS into the IOS249 slot.
So is it safe to have cIOS38r17 installed instead of installing r14? i already installed cIOS38r17 while doing Dogeggs "New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii"
im ready to go i partitioned my hdd into three partitions and put games on wbfs all i need to do now is get usb loader going but not sure if i should install the cIOS38r14 thats included in the download link on the first page of this post since i already have cIOS38r17 installed.

No, you are fine now. At the time Mirkec asked, the official cIOS38rev17 had not been released. The preleased "leaks" were not final versions. If you installed cIOS using the installer in Dogeggs tutorial you are OK.

Yes, it will work. You just need to format your USB flash to FAT32 and you need to format on WBFS manager. I'm playing on my 16gb USB flash drive.

I'm trying to configure my Seagate Expansion HDD to work on the wii but it will only let me format to NTFS of exFAT.

I believe I need it in Fat 32 format before configuring to WBFS. Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this?

Well you don't need to format to FAT32 the whole drive, WBFS Manager will format the whole drive to WBFS, however, that leaves no room for having all your HBC & USB Loaders & Triiforce all on the same drive.

Give yourself about 20-30GB as the first partition for FAT32, the remainder for all the WBFS partition giving.

As formatting to FAT32 - try CompuApps, Inc. - Download Swissknife

Use EASEUS Partition Master is Magic FREE Partition Manager Software for Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 and Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7. Free for home users. to partition your drive into 2 drives (partitions)
