It depends on where the softmod files were stored when your wii was modded, most people use a 2gig sd and leave it in with the files on but some store all the files on an external drive. Does your wii boot up with homebrew channel or any other non original channels in the menu ?

Its one of my problem actually, because when I bought the Wii I have zero idea about the Wii soft mod installed, if I bought 2gig sd can I still perform back up? My wii boot up with homebrew channel, Usb Loader X (not sure with spelling), and others.. Thanks for the reply BTW... =)

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html

This is the best guide I have found. I used it after my kids system updated through wii connect and it worked like a charm on 4.2U and a friends 4.3U wii. You will have to read about WBFS here on the forums and download the program. but basically you end up with two partitions on your ext HDD. One for your wbfs games, usually large, and one for your hack files 2-4 gb is all you need here. The two I have done work without having to have an SD card in the slot ever.

There is a ton of great info here and it seems overwhelming at first but search, read, search, read. That's the best advice I can give you. You'll get it.

FAT32 and NTFS formatted HDD's are the way to go now....
If you had a SD card in and your apps were working and then you took it out and they aren't now it's because your menu channels are forwarder channels that point to the apps in the apps folder on your sd card....

If you have accepted a update then you cIOS will be stubbed and you will have to mod again. If it's just a case of no sd card its probably what I said in the sentence above about the apps needing to be on the SD Card.

You can run the apps from a fat32 partition on your hdd as well.

Best thing to do would be to get a sd card and run a syscheck and we can tell you what may or may not need updating.

Better exlpaination of the two HDD Partitions and forwarders here from narse1979. The wbfs reading will show how to point forwarders at the usb HDD rather than the SD card too. I went to CFG usb loader from usb loader GX too and find it ultimately more configurable as the name would suggest.
    Good luck.

Unless you configure a hdd as above you will need the apps on an sd card, if possible can you contact the seller and ask how he had it setup, it might be a simple case of putting the files back onto a card and bobs your uncle.
