I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong being that I havent changed any configs to the SD card nor to the HDD. Any suggestions...
Because you were able to see your Wii and HDD work together at least once, I would guess that your softmods are okay and the problem is hardware. The problem is either a damaged USB port or more likely the HDD is not compatible enough. That is what your description seems to indicate.

Red face Question about my hard drive

Hi, I have a question about my hard drive. I have a western digital model number wd5000h1u-00 and I have been having a problem with the hard drive spinning down when playing certain games, i.e. De Blob. Any ways I have been trying to look around the interwebs to find a solution to this to no avail. If any one has a good idea I'm all ears. Oh also, I was wondering how to set up my hdd so that wiimc and hbb would be able to see it. Thanks

First post - tried searching after reading. Likely making things way more difficult than they are.

In step two in the quote - it says to copy the wad files from the wad folder on my pc (which I can find and see) to the SD card. I've already done the 4.3 soft mod and this step has me screwed up...I don't have a wad folder on my SD card from the install process. Am I supposed to just copy the whole folder to the sd card so that it THEN has a wad folder or am i somehow missing that folder?

I have backups running thru the usbconfig that was already on the wii channel from the initial mod and they work fine (so far) and that was just with copying the wad folder over... was that right then?

Thanks in advance - this is an amazing site and you all do an awesome job...thanks for all the work and the amazing support you provide...!!

check the western digital website and see if there are any 'tools' for your model. There 'should' be one that will allow you to change/disable spindown. As far as setting up your hdd so that wiimc and hbb will see it, it has to be fat32 afaik

You used the phrase yourself AFAIK is short for "as far as I know". By the way, commonly used abbreviations can be Googled. I do it myself, not being a frequent texter and seeing abbreviations a lot on this site. Make sure your FAT32 partition is set up as primary and try to set as active to see if that helps.

There is a guide using BootCamp located in the Mac Forum area of our site. So the basic answer is that you have to use the Windows environment to create the partitions. It might be easier for you to format the whole drive as FAT32 and then follow the FAT32 only HDD guide. There is a link to that guide in this tutorial and you may need to update the Wii cIOS per that guide.

Yes, the game plays the same and so will be able to access the saved game files you have on the SD card.
