I think only certain apps which have USB support will allow you to use the USB instead of the SD card but I'm not %100 sure.

I was just about the ask the same question. How about system memory? I'm not 100% but that's NAND right? I keep running out of space on the wii itself and I have plenty of HDD room I'd like to use.

If you keep running out of NAND delete some of your excessive WiiWare or VC titles.

    Multiple Playing Partitions Ext. HDD

read the posts and am able to do multiple partitions and use them in ALMOST every way except the following:
I am looking to use multiple partitions to store, play and load the games. As i understand wii only sees 500 GAMES per partition, so on a WD 2tb ex hdd i have created 2 in every way possible and cant get the wii to see the second partition that also has a number of games on it. The first partition, whether the active or not is always seen and works fine. The 2nd is NEVER seen, been driving me crazy. Running v3.4u, i read the 4.1 part but was unsure if that pertained to WBFS partitions. I can transfer games to and from any prt. in Wbfs manager. Any help is greatly appreciated. .............peaaaaaaaaaace

AFTER many hours I was able to figure it out and it can be done. Works great and I will post new thread later with all steps and downloads.

    Great tutorial. Thanks heaps.

I'm still having some probs though. Hopefully someone can help. Im actually trying to use my external HDD to dump and load ios files. I've tried a few apps, usb loader, iso dvd dumper and superdump but all seem to not like me (or my hdd). I get various errors (could not initiate usb subsystem) which all basically point to the HDD (lacie 500gb). I figured after formatting this HDD as per the tutorial it would hopefully then be recognised by one of the loader/dumper apps. Any thoughts are tips to help would be appreciated

    Thanks

Is your HDD supported or known to have issues?

I was able to get it all working PERFECTLY with 2 partitions and 2 diff USB loaders .I will post all steps when not replying from my phone.
    A) using dsk manag. Delete the whole partition
    b) create new simple volume
    c) choose size and do not format, give it a letter
    d) using wbfs manager select letter and click format
    e) at this point from right side click browse and
see if u can load ur own iso from pc. If u can't get this far something else is wrong.

Try running USB loader Gx and u should be able to see game.
I have multiple partitions in wbfs and working
Perfectly. I will upload all steps later. If it doesn't work for u pm me and try and help you. Goodluck

    One tip for this tutorial:

Use the first partition as FAT, not the second. This way, you can use your HDD with homebrews.

    Both must be primary partitions.

    So, it would be F: -> FAT32 and G: -> WBFS

I use my sd card for the fat, as I keep screwing around adding wads.
Plus I need both of the entire wbfs partitions as games. Like I said, I got it working
great and will post steps after I put everything with the apps and hacks
together. Pm me if u want any further info. Thnx
