i'm working with a 4.2u. Homebrew installed and bootmii as ios.
Not normal, power off and try again (hold power for 5 seconds).

Many thanks for writing the tutorial. I've spent a lot of time tonight finding a tutorial that looks trustworthy and up-to-date before attempting my first Softmod, and this was the one I ultimately selected.

I have a regular white Wii running 4.2U. At step 1 part b the tutorial says:
At the HackMii installer my Wii is displaying:
I'm apprehensive about continuing given that the tutorial states that BootMii must be installed "as an IOS and/or boot2".

    What are your suggestions?
Yes continue, install as an IOS and continue the guide. That is normal.

To answer my own question: Yes, install it as an IOS. Life is better if you can install it as boot2, but if you can't then just install it as IOS.

I have another question though. I'm dangerously close to finishing the tutorial without any errors(!!!). I'm at Step 8 a:
    a) Load WAD Manager from Homebrew Channel, navigate into the wad folder and highlight either USB_Loader_GX_r938.wad or Neogamma_R9_beta26.wad. (Neogamma for Disc loading and USB Loader for USB HDD loading.)
    I'm in the WAD manager and I must first select which IOS to use; either 249, 250, 254, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 51, 53, 55, 56, 57, 60, 61, or 70. Does it matter which I choose?

Again answering my own question: Use 249. I don't know if it makes a difference, but 249 definitely works.

I answered your first question if you read above your post. Also, there wasn't really a question in that...I just assumed you wanted reassurance that it was OK to continue.

Please use the edit button if you have something to add to your post rather then double posting. Thanks.

Yes you sure did, and I did fail to notice it. I was looking for reassurance more than anything and I'm sorry I missed it, because my poor wife will be left cleaning up the puddles I've left on the sofa. Thanks for the post.

I've been paranoid at each step, mostly because I wasn't sure which was the dangerous bricking one, so I'd planned on triple checking each step as i went along. The trouble was that I'd kept getting asked questions or looking at screens slightly different to the tutorial. When I first went to the homebrew channel it suggested I update it from 1.6 to 1.8, and I hit yes without thinking. I suspect that's why I've been seeing the different windows each time.

    System is 4.2e

Evetything went ok until I try to play a game, then it just sits at a blank screen
The hdd works on a friends wii and they can play games without any issues.

    Any help would be appreciated

Forgot to say thanks for the guide and that I appreciate the time that was put into it, having fun on our homebrew enabled Wii with USBLoader and my parents are having a blast with New Super Mario Bros. - The Next Levels.

    Quick question;

Does this work on 4.2U ? Or just 4.2?

Apologies in advance for the long story.

I got through the guide (thanks Krank for the previous response on the ios36 loading freeze), and loaded USB_Loader_GX_r938.wad. I followed up by installing IOS 222/223 following Stomp_442 guide, "Hermes cIOS v4 is out!", and config USB loader using Cile/Krank's guide on FAT32 hard drives. For config USB loader, I installed the forwarder WAD "CFG Loader Forwarder - DFCL".

I used an enclosure and partitioned a HDD using EASEUS, roughly half FAT32 and half NTFS, and made the FAT32 partition active. I extracted and loaded both iso's i downloaded to the the NTFS partition (both larger than 4GB) and copied the config USB loader files to FAT32 partition. I tried using gx usb loader but got a message saying no FAT/NTFS partition was detected. When I selected the NTFS partition, I got the DSI exception. I tried using config usb loader, but it also didn't detect a partition.

I tried using a Kingston 16GB flash drive (made sure it was on the compatible list) formatted to NTFS. both loaders don't detect the partition and after selecting the partition, don't display any games.

Another issue is that when I try to load config usb loader from the channel menu (using the forward), it brings me back to the channel menu. Is this because it doesn't detect a partition or is it an indication of something wrong in the modding process?

I'm working with a 4.2U menu system, boot installed as IOS.

    Can anyone help?
