The only thing that can delete it (besides the hackmii installer) is a boot2 update. Tell us what the problem is, and we can help you do the backup.
I agree with you, and making sure that you have a proper backup is crucial if something happens.

Hi - thanks for the reply. I couldn't use the front panel buttons to navigate and don't have a gamecube controller like i said its an old wii so it's not a big deal if it busts. I installed as boot2 by the way. I honestly have no problems at all with all the latest games. Am i likely to do an update and mess it up? If so would i not be ok to disable the wireless and keep it offline for good?

There are a lot of things that can brick your Wii, and bootmii with a backup can protect you from almost all. An old Wii is far more valuable these days if you mod it, so it should be a big deal if it bricks. You really need to make that NAND backup, and I don't understand why you are reluctant to. You can undo almost ANY mistake!

When you boot up your Wii (with the SD card in), what is the first thing that you see on the screen, and how long does it last before going to the System Menu?

I am not reluctant to i just CANT do it. I got to the point where i have to use the front panel to navigate OR plug in a gamecube controller. When i press the front panels it doesnt navigate they just do as they are marked i.e. eject power off etc! I have no gamecube controller either. I am not at home right now but i get the 4 options ermm second across i think is SD and 4th is the cogs. At this point i just hit reset and it boots to the normal screen, i goto usb loader, pick a game and play.

Try running the installer I linked below. Just put it on your SD card and run "Hackmii Installer" from the HBC, then reinstall bootmii as boot2 and as IOS. If you want, you can use it to update your HBC to 1.0.8 as well. After that, try doing a backup again. If boot2 doesn't work, try IOS. If it doesn't work, please tell me.

    Softmod Wii Error

I have a 4.2 Wii and previously followed the 4.2 softmod guide. On a website I frequent, I downloaded and IOS update that was supposedly downloaded from this website. I ended up installing the files through the homebrew channel and also downloaded a homebrew update. I didn't delete any IOS files.
So I reboot the Wii and go into USB loader and get a blank green like screen and then a black screen with code dump & stack dump message. So I decide to delete all the files off my SD card and start over.
I started to follow the softmod instructions but have run into a problem as when I load the homebrew channel it is a blank screen in step 3 of the softmod. Can someone direct me as far as what I have to do to get my Wii back on track.

    Thanks
