1gb will work, I used that. 2gb will work. 512mb will work, but forget about backing up your NAND. 4gb um NOPE.

Thanks, is size the only thing I need to be concerned about? I don't plan on getting a generic card, but do all of the higher end brands work effectively?

Buy a Wii-branded 2gb Sandisk card @ Wallyworld for $10 and let this go...

    4.2u and me

    Hi All,

First post. Quick question. I have 2 wii(s) (just bought another one). I have 4.1u on the one I already soft modded, everything works perfect. I have 4.2u on the new one, I have installed the bootmii, dvdx, and hbc. HBC will not work, I click on it and it goes to a black screen. I start the wii with bootmii and click on hbc and I get a black screen (I've even tried leaving it on for a few hours, same thing). I've tried loading in the system menu with no luck either.

Is this a new wii that can not be soft modded? I thought by using bootmi (before the system menu boots up) that hbc would work, but nope.

I'm using a san disk 1gb micro sd with adaptor. I've tried other sd cards (including the one that is working in the other wii) and the same thing. HBC will not load, I see the ocean swirling, but when I click start, nothing but a black screen.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Some of the software is picky with regard to SD cards. Try a full SD 2gb or less (no MicroSD w/adapters, nor SDHC) and make sure it's FAT32 full / not quick formatted. Sandisk cards work best (and yes, I realize you said it worked on the 4.1 but trust me that's somewhat unusual). Also when you get a moment, stop by the Introduction Section of the site and please drop a line as a new user; you're "supposed" to do this for an initial post but "better late than never"

Will try a different card and the formatting technique you described, thanks for the suggestions. Will post in the intro section as well, sorry for not doing that first.

Weird that bootmii works off the sd, and I've even got the homebrew browser to work (by putting the wad on the root of the sd and lauching through the system menu's sd icon) and added apps to the hbc. hbc refuses to work in bootmi or the system menu tho.

Thaks for the quick response and suggestions.

    Thanks!

ShadowSonic2, thanks for putting together such a great tutorial!! That was way easier than soft modding by xbox way back when. For some reason I was getting a code dump error the first few times I tried installing the iOS w/ fakesign. It was starting to worry me a bit but after the 7th or 8th time it went through without error. After that it was smooth sailing. I even accidentally installed cIOS249-rev14 a second time after completing all of the steps and it hasn't caused any problems.

I was able to load games from a flash drive (Kingston Data Traveler) with no problems. Now I just need to do a little digging to see if this internal WD 2500KS drive I have laying around can be used on the Wii via a usb adapter. I also tried burning to a RiData DVD+R with no luck, though expected given the media I was using (figured it was worth a shot).

    Thanks again man!!
