If you are saying your 4.o Wii was softmodded before the upgrade then: "Those who had previously (before the update) installed ios249 may have a chance to play backed up games easily. They should run cios38rev14 installer from Homebrew Channel and use ios250. if that does not work, try running it again, but using one of the following : ios202, ios222,ios223,ios249.Then you can proceed to D. If one of these does not work either, you should have to do the following:...

If your 4.0 was unmodded, try each of the 3 pack options that make up Part B.

It's been long enough. Something's wrong-are there files from the previous Steps on that card? Wipe the card, reformat it and copy one the packs again and try to continue. If no joy, repeat with the other pack. Tell messie which pack worked.

When I select any of them (ios250, ios222, ios223 or ios249), once I press A, the light goes out on the drive, and the system locks up. BTW, ios202 is not even listed as a option. Before when I tried it, I was selecting 'Do not reload IOS', and that was when I got the error.

If you have HBC working, there should be no problem with Homebrew Browser. Download and install from WiiBrew. Make sure you have your Internet access and router settings right. Internet access can be on, but keep WiiConnect24 off-unless you are actually using it.

They've all done the same thing. Wii disc slot flashing and thats about it. I've tried all three with wiped SD cards formatted at FAT32. Now there is a possibility that I loaded bootmii as both a boot2 and ISO (it said successful for the boot2 but I didn't see an "uninstall" below it so I loaded it as an ISO and same result...so i think its on there twice). If that was the problem, how would I go about fixing it? (and if it was loaded as a boot2 shouldnt bootmii start automatically once the SD card is inserted into the wii?)

As directed in the tutorial, when none of the IOSes work, then continue to the the Part B instructions-try each of the packs. The 4.2 update managed to stub all your available IOSes in the 200 range, So, you have to remove the IOS249 stub so that you can use it. RUN PART B.

There is no problem with having installed bootmii as both boot2 and IOS. To recover and write your NAND backup from SD to the NAND flash chip, your SD card should have boot.elf in Root, the private folder, the bootmii folder, and your NAND.bin file should all be there. You can start your Wii up and insert the card, bootmii should start up, you will load boot.elf and navigate the bootmii menu to those icons where before you selected the arrow pointing from the chip to the SD card; this time you will select the icon with the arrow pointing from the SD card to the chip.

Any addl questions about bootmii-checkout BootMii.org
    Good luck.

Credits to wiihacks for given us the tools to get the 4.2 U working.

Here was how I got mine to work on a virgin 4.2U

I did step A to get the HBC on my system.

I then skip step B all together.

Went to step C and did what was on their site. I followed to where they say "Do not reload IOS" and did that and went back to do IOS 250 and did internet update then once it's done it will restart and go back again and do IOS 249 and do the same and once restart go into HBC and install WAD and the rest. Work 4 me!
