exactly, updating HBC before the mod is complete can cause unforseen problems. Update after the mod is done as Krafter stated.

Or you will end up like the last poster, with two HBCs, which isn't a problem, just more confusion.

Hi all. I plan on using this tutorial soon. Whilst im waiting on an SD card being delivered im reading up in the meantime.

I have one question though. It is in regards to this part of the guide..
Those who were able to install bootmi as boot2 SHOULD BACKUP THEIR NAND RIGHT AWAY!!! If bootmii was installed as ios, then you don't need this step, although you can make one just in case. Mind that you will need a Gamecube controller tho if bootmii was an ios
Now, when it comes to who can install bootmii as boot2 and who has to install it as an IOS what determines which ? Is there anyway to tell before physically trying the process ?
Or is it just kinda 50/50 whether you get to install it as boot2 or as an IOS ?

The reason i ask is, i see that if i have to install it as an IOS i WILL need a gamecube controller to make a NAND backup, is that correct ? And if i get the chance to install as boot2 i can just use the Wiimote ?
So i dunno wether to go ahead and buy a GC controller or just wait and see if i can install it as boot2 ?
Also, if i dont buy one, and go through the process and find that i did need one, can i just power off my wii and try again in a few days once i get a controller or will switching my wii off during the hack cause any problems ? Long story a bit shorter, should i just buy a GC controller to be on the safe side ? Or is it like the guide says, i dont actually need to make a backup of NAND if i install bootmii as an IOS ? Have i got that right ?

***EDIT... I just read this bit again
It is not recommended to restore your NAND if you have Bootmii installed as an IOS.
Umm, so if i do get to install as boot2, i dont need a GC controller, and if i have to install it as and IOS i still dont need one because theres no point in making a backup of NAND when bootmii is an IOS ?
its 'not recommended' to restore this backup ?

Sorry, i realise thats alot of questions for my first post here in these forums, but thank you anyone for any advice you can give.

Fantastic job. Keep up the good work all.

You can use the power and eject buttons to navigate in bootmii usually even if you install as an ios. Its still a good idea to make a nand backup

    Okay, thanks for that mate.
So either way i wont need to buy a GC controller. Nice one, saves me a few bob lol

I came across this answer from yahoo answers and wondering if its accurate...
If your Wii was manufactured before mid 2008 you can install bootmii as boot02 and backup your wii's NAND memory to an SD card
I got mine about a year after it came out if i remember correctly, late 2007. So if that statement is true theres a good chance i will be able to install bootmii as boot2 ?

    Thanks
