My thanks. Last question I promise! Is it true that Nintendo have put a firmware update inside some games? Do I need to avoid future updates (whatever they are)? Sorry - that was two questions.

I finished with step "A" and was able to install HBC correctly, but before proceeding to step "B" , you state the cios 38rev14 installer should be ran. But when I do that my controller loses connection to the Wii.....

Thumbs up 1017 Errors Fixed on 4.2u!

I bought a used virgin Wii, running System Menu 2.2. Without knowing any better, I updated to 4.2u (doh!).

I was able to use Indian Pwns with HackMii 0.5 to install BootMii, homebrew, and make a backup of my NAND.

After doing this I had recieved 1017, 1035 errors working with IOS files.

Following this guide, I used Pack3 for Part B, and Pack1 with "Do not reload" for Part C. I was able to successfully remove the stub and install cIOS38rev14.

For anyone still getting 1017 errors for part B, try to re-download, and make sure the file is marked with "Dogeggs".

Much thanks to Messie, Dogeggs, and the all of the programmers. It takes a tremendous amount of work to put something like this together.

Also we have all been given an enormous amount of freedom with the features that this software unlocks. Please keep in mind how much time, effort, and money goes into creating these games before you abuse your new power!

for a while you are safe (3-4 months from now, new games should have a 4.2 update, this makes you safe for now, unstil prelaoder comes. either way you can just say no to an update or just scrub the update with brickblocker before you burn the game. games on HDD dont ahve the update wth them

just run B you noob. i say only if you wii was pre hacked. if it fails do B

jdm93rx7: not the same work for all. And bear in mind that i have no funds at all being a uni-student. 50 euros for a game? thats my weekly budget....

    thanks for the great guide.

for b1, i had to use the third pack. the remote stopped connecting, i didn't get an explicit error. thought i needed to use a game cube controller like backing up the nand.

c1 the first pack worked for me.

    jkrakker: see step B5
I didn't install DOP-ios, I used the one that starts with an H that came with the initial rar file for starting this guide. Anyways now that that is out of the way, I got everything working perfectly, thank you so much for your guide Messie!

And to follow up and the reason i quoted you, is that I have installed wads of wiiware and VC games from a torrent file.

[WII] All Wiiware & VC Games up to April 06, 2009 [USA][NTSC] Torrent - btjunkie

I have tested all of them, and no brick. Granted who knows what combo of crap I went through to get all of my stuff set up, but I could repeat what I went through if anyone were to ask. All of them work great.

NOTE- I'm on 4.2u as well, and went through hell and back with cIOS installers before using the one for uloader which finally made everything work perfectly right away. USB Loader GX works now, VC, WiiWare, Backups.

I also definitely backup up the SD boot for the just in case brick. And should note I also have a wiikey 2 hard modded in my system. Just wanted to stop burning DVDs.

And finally, I'm not trying to say to anyone that the wads in the torrent above are safe, or should be used, just letting people know if they are bold enough and don't care enough about thier wii, those ones have worked for me. I keep crossing my fingers hoping not to brick, it's not a grantee the brick can be fixed if you do. Even with a good backup of your boot.

Ok well that's all I had to throw in. Thanks again for the excellent guide, it worked well, and I suggest people try the cIOS installer for uloader that is in the apps on homebrew when you initially bannerbomb for trying to get USB Loader GX to work, starts with an H, should get my details straight. haha. But that's the one that gave me NO problem whatsoever.

    You guys are gods

Final question - do we need to keep these files in the SD Card? I've installed the two channels onto my system now.
