Ngs - on the first copy/paste, do you mean we should overwrite Messies's boot.dol in the ROOT, or, in his own apps/wadmanager folder? There are 2 boot.dols in total on the SD.

EDIT: My mistake - I tried to install the new CIOS from Messie's 1st pack, which didn't work. Using the correct pack for step C) worked Wahoo!

I had problem at stage B5
B5)Wadmanager should start.(on ios select, select ios36, or try a few, i am still researching on this)!!
I got error mesage so I supposed it did not uninstall?
I did proceed thru the all stages and I can see the HBC menu but when i press on the wad maneger to install USB and DVD the wii freezes, did you figure out which ios to pick? my version is 4.2E thanks much

Yes, override messies boot.dol.
in Messies file you should only have bootmii and wad files - do not touch those.
copy shadowsonics boot.dol from apps/wadmanager1.4
place this in the root of your sd(it should replace messies boot.dol)
also shadow sonics boot.dol is 508kb.

i copied the dol from sonics wad manager and put it in messies and i also took the startup.elf from sonics and put in on my sd card and still get the -1017 anyone else having the problem?

They both have to go in the root of the SD. So the first one comes from Shadow's 'apps\wadmanager 1.4 folder' (not shadow's root), and is dropped in Messies root. Then the 2nd file goes from Shadow's root, to Messies root.

stormtrooper, did you get Wad manager v1.4 to work to uninstall the cIOS? Earlier reports were saying that v1.4 did not work and v1.5 did.

I got error 1017 at Step B (Trying to exterminate cios249. ┐what┤s wrong?

Well, I'm done - I was able to install the 2 channels via the WadManager in HBC, without a hitch (I did get worried when it appeared to lock up after choosing IOS249 - but I think it was just reading the SD!).
I've just loaded up my U.S Resident Evil 4 GC backup, and it's running fine again.
Before I sign off I've got two points:
1. If I can later downgrade my Wii to 3.3E again, will my WiiKey 1 start working again, so I can just pop discs in without using Neo? And if so, would that work for all titles new and old?
2. Thanks to the community - especially to Messie for nursing our frustration this evening whilst we got through it, ShadowSonic and Messie again for their tutorials which wouldn't have got us to our hybrid solution, to Ngs599 for his breakthrough, and to everyone else for chipping in
