I have followed the guide on here step by step 10+ times but to no avail.
I get an error every time.
I have HBC installed fine, that was easy. But i really want to be able to play backups from a hard drive because my son is ruining most of the discs i have!

    Cheers in advance.
I upgraded mine not realising but everything works great for me except the USB error too

I purchased a new Wii from Costco and found that its version is 4.0U. Now this site says that if the version is below 4.1, DO NOT UPGRADE and use the guide "New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii" by Dogeggs. But I find this guide for the 4.2 version is much simpler and easier to understand. Should I not upgrade to 4.2U and use this newer guide instead of the old one where I see more complexity?

Also, if any of you guys backed up the NAND flash, were you able to use the Wii remote or were you forced to use the Gamecube controller? I do not have the Gamecube controller and if I do the softmod, then I will back up the NAND flash. It that requires me to use the GC Controller, then I need to buy it before hand, before I start to the softmod. If none of you requried it, then I am probably safe to start the mod without the GC controller.

Please reply. I am a noob.

    Thanks

I didn't get B done correctly because at B4) wadmanager never started so I didn't bother and went on to finish the guide, everything works now that its complete except for the USB drive thing, is that because i didn't complete B fully?

    Thanks in Advance

-I should now also mention I got the channels working but they seem to do nothing except take up space and black out (does it matter which storage device you pick? i.e. Mass storage device 1.1 or 2)

DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.2! This guide has a number of sections where the function is simply to repair the damage done to the Wii by system 4.2 Do not damage your Wii's FW just to use this tutorial.

Read the other tutorial carefully and several times through. After your careful reading if you still have questions, please post them as clearly as possible in that forum.

Your Wii will need to use the GC controller to navigate the bootmii menu. While you are out buying that controller, pick up a SanDisk 2GB SD, NOT SDHC. Before you start the softmod, make sure you have Internet access ON and WiiConnect24 OFF.

Awesome speediness, so the only difference in hacking the wii from before(4.1) is you have to remove the IOS249 stub? Is that it?

Why? I had a virgin wii 4.2u followed this guide and used a 8GB SDHC SanDisk.

My only problem at this point is that my backups from my usb won't play w/o the SD card in the slot, despite my loading the full channel and not the forwarder (???)

That was good that your card worked. The SD card reading from the various apps used in the softmod can be tricky-anyway, it worked for you so that was good. Your USB Loader certainly acts like you installed a forwarder.
