4.1 is best (not 4.2!) as this provides maximum benefits. You'll have SDHC compatibility/capability, and you will be compatible with Priiloader which is your first, best line of defense against certain "threats" (banner bricks, game disc update prompts, that idea). 3.1/3.3/3.4 aren't compatible with Priiloader. If your Wii is 2 yrs old by chance, when you do get to this mod you should be able to install BootMii as boot2 which is the best brick recovery option available --- but Priiloader and it work well effectively together.

Myself I burn DVD+R with bitsetting to DVD-ROM, but that's a matter of personal practice/preference and not officially sanctioned. I use USB HD as primary means, so in my case I think I'm good as I never use the drive (I even put'em on the USB HD via PC side of things). Again, the official line if that's what you're asking is quality media and DVD-R.

I thought I would check, so I was clear on all steps. I already have 4.1E, and I plan to follow this guide.
On step 4, it says you don't need to update if you have 4.1. But do I still need to install the patched IOS60? 'Warning - If you don't install the patched IOS60 first you will brick!' Or do I not need it if I'm on 4.1 already. I think the patched version allows wiiware and VC from an SD, but that is the only difference? So the ISO60 I already have on my 4.1 should be OK, as I don't intend to use SD/VC.
Thanks, and sorry I wasn't 100% sure, so could someone please clarify it for me.
Oh, it seems as if I need the patched one for Priiloader anyway. So I guess I will have to install it!

first of all THANKS! the guide is really simply to follow, an the way the files were compiled really helps. I do have a question though.
i dont have internet access enabled, and cant enable due to semi-brick.
Done all steps up to 4, and have patched ISO60. Given i have no internet access, how would i upgrade fw.
In addition, i dont know what fw im on. I hadnt used the wii in a long time (2007 model i think) and i stupidly updated from an ntsc wii fit plus backup.
i did hard mod on D2Cpro, but note that they jut arent supporting it anymore.

Playing WAD and ISO files
I used the guide and installed everything fine(so far anyways) ...
I am now at the point where I want to play some games, but not sure how I go about this. Can someone tell me how to play WAD and ISO files?? Can I play WAD files from the SD card?? if so, do I need to install anything else??

Thanks for this tut! .
There's one thing though, I can't download the pack. The first download link.
Is it possible to put it on mediafire?

Had a tough time at the point of the IOS60. It wasn't clear to me that the file was found in the wad sub directory of the sd card (until i opened the downloaded archive finally and found where it was extracted to).
Other than that, all went perfectly... thanks a million!
