This step is optional unless you are on 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 in which case you must update, if you are on 3.2 or 4.0 you can update if you want and it is recommended that you do, if you are on 4.1 there is no need obviously! If you are on 3.1 you will have to update to 4.0 first, make sure you install the patched IOS60 first though still. Before you update to 4.1 make sure you have at least 250 blocks free or you will brick, install IOS60-patched first with Wad Manager using IOS249, then run Firmware Updater 4.1."

how do i install the patched IOS60 at this stage?
i have checked my firmware version and it is still v3.4e.
Before you ever update and when you're at this step, go into HBC. Load up Wad Manager. Select SD card and IOS249. Go into the /wad folder and it should be there. Install it, and then resume Step 4 (where you'll go back to HBC and select FW 4.1 safe updater). Make sure internet = ON, WiConnect24 = OFF. Have your internet configured for your router, taking into account that if it's security enabled that you have entered the necessary information. Run that app and after download and update you should be @ 4.1

    2. How do I install USB Loader GX as a channel on the home screen?, I know I need to install a wad file, but in WAD manager which IOS do I choose to load/as first option?

    3. I also want to install Operal Internet Channel, again which IOS does this use and what is the process?

Hopefully someone can please help a wii novice

    Thanks JB
    1. Shopping Channel thread (it's labeled for 4.2 but works for 4.1 as well) can be found here. Follow that tutorial and you're good to go.

    2. All wad installs should be via IOS249 and SD card if you completed the mod correctly (if you don't see it, then step 3 wasn't completed correctly). For the various revisions of USB Loader GX --- both HBC and channel/wad installs, go here.

    3. You can download the newest internet channel NTSC-U here, the PAL one here, or the Japan one here.

It should be noted these optional updates are clearly labeled, defined, and linked under the "Optional" sections at the end of the tutorial; didn't you see them?

Now, reformat that SD card, use the full FAT32 format not the Quick format, please. Redownload and re-extract the softmod files and copy to your SD card. Try Step 3 again. Good luck.
I removed IOS 249 and started with step 3 again. Everything seems to be working now and I'm updating to 4.1 at this time. Thanks a ton!

That specific error code usually means you've already gotten the Trucha bug to take. Keep in mind, I believe System Menu 3.2 and downwards already had this bug present. What version is yours? If IOS36 isn't present, use the next closest number below it and continue with the Tutorial; post back if any problems.

What I mean is try step 3d and see if wad manager defaults to IOS249. If so, do that step and continue on. If not, post back.

Create a folder on the SD card inside of the /apps folder. Name it USB_Loader or similar. You should have a .dol file; if it's not named boot.dol, rename it to that. Then launch HBC and you should see it in there as a selectable choice.
