What is the different between wad install and .dol? If I installed NeoGamma as Wad on this tutorial and the latest update I've download was .dol. Do I need to uninstall the old Neogamma through wad manager and do the .dol install using HBC? I am really confuse on the difference of these files.

    Thanks,
Simplest answer: .dol is SD-based solution; .wad is a channel install and then not needed to run (SD-based requires you keep SD card in Wii). You can leave your channel installed and launch the later version via HBC.

Thanks for the quick response Nightstah. If I want to do a wad update like you said a channel update. How do you do it? Do I need to use wad manager do the uninstall then run the updated wad to install the latest update?

    Thanks,

I need help on step 3b. After it does the patching it says press a to start the install. Then gives the following:
    ES_AddTitleSta rt returned: -1035
Has your installed IOS36 a higher revision than 3094?
IOS36 installation failed. Press any button to exit.
I do have a higher version of IOS36 installed, but I don't know what to do about following the tutorial now. I know this has been asked before, but no answer was given. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Black screen usually means either Step 3 not done correctly or a game is missing a needed IOS. Let me put it this way: have you tried NeoGamma as your loader? You don't say what you're using as a loader. If you get the splash screen where it shows IOS 249 (Rev 14) at bottom, that's a sign of a correctly modded Wii. If not, redo step 3 realizing you must use the dpad to manipulate the IOS to the proper one and also to set values according to the Tutorial. If you do have the IOS 249 (Rev 14) at bottom and the Wii is 6 months old or less, it's probably got a D3-2 drive which leaves you replace the PCB on the dvd drive, go usb, or wode.

    Thanks,
You can have multiple iterations of a given app installed as channels. You'd use wad manager to uninstall existing wad (only if you kept the wad file), and then install the newer one if you don't want multiple versions. You can create a wad or a channel forwarding option, use the search feature to check on the forums.

Let me search that for you here and here. Try following the advice Gen3SF gave and post back if no success.

Right I am nearly ready to start hacking but have just thought of a couple of questions

    1) My firmware is 4.0U (I am in Canada) Do I really need to update to 4.1? What are the benefits. The Guy I brought my Wii from told me not too upgrade to 4.2 as I would loose the ability to play pal games on my device(Pre-modded)

    2) Can everything that is done in this tutorial be undone? I read the thread on making your Wii a virgin again and it suggested not to carry this procedure out on the newer Wii's

I have already prepared my USB hard drive and formatted it so the Wii can recognize it, the question is should I go to bed or should I stay up and start hacking

    Happy New Year to all

    1. 4.0 is ok if you really don't want to update (it is, however, recommended nonetheless).

    2. there's no guarantees in life, everything is a risk. newer wiis have the possibility of bricking if you follow the virginizing your wii thread. it's based on age/serial # and if you feel uncomfortable then I suggest not doing it.

    3. my wii's new and i managed the mod ok; it can coexist with your hardmod, why would u want to "undo" the soft mod?

Nightstah, thanks for offering up some help. Unfortunately, those didn't fix the problem
The first one mentions an updated downgrader but he has the correct 3094 revision which I don't. I get the error with it being newer than 3094.
The second one mentions just skipping to 3d - when it gets to installing custom IOS it says >> Install ERROR! (ret = -2011)
Also, the default in WAD Manager is still IOS36 not IOS249.
I'll keep searching, let me know if you think of anything else.
Do I just need to find a way to get an older IOS36 or a newer TBR or something?
