Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I went through about half the posts in this thread and couldn't find it.

I have a virgin 3.4u wii. This seems to be the best softmod tutorial that I can find, but I don't have wireless internet or a cord for it. What files would I need to download to my SD card and what steps would be different to make this tutorial into an offline version?

Is it safe to install preloader now?
So long as the System Menu you're on is supported by Priiloader, sure.

I can tell you when I patched the ISO with this mod, it worked fine. However, this is not the place to discuss it, rather here is.

It depends on what you want to accomplish. It is in this thread, however to briefly summarize: You could use NUS Downloader (presuming you want to update to V4.1 System Menu). You'd download that as a wad for installation purposes and again, you'd have to install the IOS60 patched as mentioned at end of step 4 and beginning of step 5 (before installing said System Menu). Rather than using the 4.1 safe updater as mentioned, you'd use wad manager to install that System Menu update just downloaded by NUS Downloader already mentioned. Also, do not install Priiloader prior to the update.

If you don't want to update 3.2 you can skip the 4.1 update step but as said, cannot use Priiloader but rather a couple of alternatives as mentioned in the Tutorial. That's it in a nutshell, Gen is far better at a point-by-point response.

I said no, because I wasn't sure if the softmod would mess things up or vice versa. So, can anyone answer me? Is it safe to allow the system to update itself?
As another poster responded, do NOT accept updates from nintendo. It'll update you to 4.2 which means two things: 1. you cannot follow this tutorial, but rather a different one; 2. the alternative 4.2 mod is far more involving/difficult than this one. Make sure you set WiConnect24 = OFF and do not accept any such update offered you.

I had two noobish questions though:

Firstly, if one can not install BootMii as boot2, what is the purpose of installing it and backing up the NAND if it's not recommended to restore it when it's installed as an IOS (this also begs the question as to which IOS to install it to)?

Secondly, in regards to step 4. I have a new Wii that came with 3.4 installed (and I have not updated it); considering that 4.2 erases all modifications made, would it be better if I just update to 4.2 first and then follow Messie's 4.2 guide?
    1. It'll offer a level of protection, even as an IOS. It's true benefit as installed under an IOS is debatable... a recovery could be tried in such a case if all other alternative/less risky attempts have failed. It doesn't offer you which IOS, merely will install to the one needed or available. Backing up NAND is a good idea so there will be a recovery option should all else fail (also in case an alternative method is devised in the future beyond using IOS-installed option).

    2. The Guide for a 4.2 mod is significantly more difficult and time consuming. You see a lot of questions here where installs weren't done properly; imagine adding several steps and you should see the corresponding ways it could do wrong.

Skip the HBC install portion like you suggest, should be OK.

The only thing that it didn't work is: Install cIOS56 to play Guitar Hero 5/Beatles from the disc channel.
I still can not play my burned ISOs of guitar heroe 5, world tour, any rock band game, I only can play ACDC and beatles, I tryied after installing cIOS56 and nothing. Any suggestion? what I'm missing??
Check this thread out and ask there --- more on topic and certainly relevant than what's mentioned at end of this tutorial on this thread.
