Only Preloader is including in this tutorial-for Starfall you will have to search for it. If you are using HBC 1.0.6, make sure Starfall has been updated for the HBC 's new Title ID.

    Go here for your installation of HermesIOS:http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-custom-s...os-v4-out.html . USB Loader GX automatically allows you to select the IOS to be used 249, 222 or 223.
    gen3sf, thanx for your helps and advices. I'll do a search soon =)

    Might be a noob question, but here goes anyways. I've got an old neogamma R4...it was working fine because I was uninterested in new wii games, but I need to update to run the SD trick with the new mario. If I run this tutorial from start to finish do I need to delete anthing or will it just overwrite the old files?

    Thanks

    got a question for you guys. I have a wii modded with the original wiikey and they stopped making firmware updates for the chip way back around the SSBB timeframe. So now im thinking about remodding it with a softmod and what I want to know is would leaving the modchip in cause the softmod to screw up in anyways? Would the chip try to take priority over any operations? or would it just be smarter to remove the chip and go from there?

    @Kevoo-no real need to delete, just go ahead and go through the tutorial-I presume you already have HBC so you can skip that part of Step 1.

    @slooog- no problem. Many chipmodded Wiis are also softmodded.

    I'd like to thank Dogeggs for such an informative post.

    I'm having a problem with getting my wii to autoboot to the system menu and/or the HBC. Every time I power cycle or reset I'm presented with the Bootmii screen at which time I have to get the Gamecube controller and select how I want the system to boot. I'm assuming I missed a step somewhere but after reading the instruction several times I can't find what I obviously overlooked. I've made certain that I have my boot option set to systemmenu in the preloader but that doesn't seem to have any bearing on how my wii boots. If anyone has any suggestion please share. Thanks in advance for any assistance given.

    I'm running the following app versions:
    Preloader = v0.29
    IOS = 60
    systemmenu = 449
    installer = 34
    HBC = 61
    DVDX = 35
    1. make sure you changed preloader settings for autoboot to sysmenu as described in Step 5C. Save your changes.

    2. Remove Private folder and boot.elf file from the SD card. After the softmod is completed successfully, you don't really need anything from the softmod pack.

    Hi gen I am a plonker and have followed your soft mod and took the option to skip (4. UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM MENU VERSION (OPTIONAL) ) with out reading on :ie I should have gone to bed and install the soft mod when I hade more spare time.
    Anyways I am on 3.3E with out having patch iso60 installed and to make life more difficult I have loaded preloader Dooaa so I was thinking is there a way to safely remove preloader then restart install compleating steps 4, 5, a,b,c,d ?
    The wii is working ok I have installed USB Loader GX and have loaded 4 game so far
    1 older game and 3 new games. The old game runs fine from usb and the new games lock up on boot with a blue screen and fault code #002.

    I did the NAND back up but from my readings that seems like a last resort.
    I would be grateful for your assistance.
    Cheers
    Van

    I am lost

    I am lost I have been looking around here for hours about 8 and soft modded my wii all was working well untill I tried to put on Wiiflow and I Bricked my wii. I was able to use preloader and boot up to the homebrew channel and removed the wads for Wiiflow. I then restarted my wii and can only get a black screen and can not start preloader no matter what I tried I have a PAL v4.1 wii.
    Any ideas please and sorry I don't know how to start a new post yet.

    I know this is a complete n00b question, but how do I access the BootMii config file? Do I bring it up on my PC and edit it as a normal text file or is there an option in the bootmii screen that will allow me to make config changes?

    Yah I edited the file through PC's notepad then save it.

    But I suggest you listen to gen3sf's advice as she's an expert in softmodding. =)
