    Question

ive done this hack, but ive only done steps 1 to 3. i need to update my firmware coz i have 3.3U. but the problem is i don't have an internet connection on my wii. i was told that i need to install ios60 and sysmenu 4.1 thru wad.

    i searched Dogegg's files and i saw IOS60patched.rar
    Is it the right file?

also ive looked in system menu and i found 4 of them. which sysmenu will i download?
    >System menu-NTSC-U-v417.rar
    >SystemMenu-NTSCU-v385.rar
    >SystemMenu-NTSCU-v449.rar
    >SystemMenu-v289-NTSCU.rar

    thanks in advance!

    help

I used a different tutorial to get homebrew on my wii. I have it on there, but I can't do the other things in the steps. I can't do anything from 2-5. I followed the instructions EXACTLY, and nothing is working for me. I don't know what to do. I have homebrew on there, but the other steps I can't even complete. What do I need to do?

    Reinstall preloader.

Thank you very much for your response. You meant ios60patched not ios69 i guess. I downloaded the file you suggested. Should I put this to the wad folder on the sd card? Or just put it to the sd card?

@sheefu - please use NTSCU-449; that will get your 3.3U to 4.1U. If you already downloaded the softmod pack for for the other tutorial steps, IOS60Patched is on your SD card in the WAD folder.

@ggb - yes, I most definitely meant IOS60patched, thanks and sorry for the typo. You could get in the tidy habit of putting Wad files in the Wad folder, but truly Wad Manager could find it in either location-just choose from list, within the Wad Manager, if in Root or select WAD and then you'll see it.

@lyric-are you seeing any error messages? More info on problems and on your Wii, please.

The menu you describe is the Homebrew Channel menu. Did you remember to also install bootmii? Step 1 involved saying yes when using boot.elf-after that a menu showed with options to install three apps: HBC, bootmii, and DVDx. Try again to install bootmii by repeating that part of Step 1, do not reinstall the HBC.

    Unhappy Black screen on boot

    Hi Guys,

I have a hardmod wii (Korean converted to US) and have been running on 3.4U for a long time.

I had HBC and Bootmii installed as IOS (was unable to boot2). I also have a NAND backup.

Now, all the updates went file as mentioned here until I completed the Waninkoko's Firmware Update 4.1

In downloaded and installed fine, but when I rebooted the Wii, I just get a Black screen.

I dont have Preloader as I had not yet got to that Step. I was still in Step 4 where it suggested an update to 4.1

I tried to look around and burnt a Autoboot disc (Bootmii) and put that DVD + SD card with bootmii and NAND backup. I still end up facing the black screen.

I tried to hold the reset button power up and that does not seem to do anything either

I had successfully installed IOS60/61 patched as well from HBC prior to installing the Update.

is there any way for me to recover my Wii from this stage???

A few years ago I soldered a Infectus Argon directly onto the SMT chips!
Was happy playing the odd backup etc. Then sortuv lost interest.

... until I saw WiiCoverFlow. (circa Jan 09)
I think at that time I was on 3.4 or maybe 4.0.
Started messing around with the soft modding.
TwilightHack to get HomeBrew on there, etc.
I was never really managed to get WiiCoverFlow working.
But was happy to load up .wad files, and was able to get other USB loaders (sortuv working).

Recently I saw USB Loader GX mentioned on LifeHacker
Back Up and Play Your Wii Games From an External Hard Drive - Wii - Lifehacker
I had to get this working...
    Tried the walkthru here
How to Store/Load Wii Games via USB Hard Drive on System Menu 4.0 [Slick Tricks Part 2]
    But no real joy

Updated from 4.0 to 4.1, same issues... seemed that USBloaderGX keeps going to black screen when loading games.

Found the above walkthru here on WiiHacks, and so gave it a try.
However, same issue: USBloader GX going to black screen.

Then I ran the 4.1 Safe update, even though I was on 4.1 and managed to semi-brick, or "banner brick" the wii. :-(
bit of stress there... was able to get into PreLoader and Bootmii, and had a backup, etc
but Bootmii keeps thinking my NAND backup is from another wii...
(I've since done a backup and immediate restore and same issue... not sure why it does this)

managed to get out of banner brick by reinstalling PreLoader. Thank god.
(I think the safe 4.1 update must have removed the ISO 60 patched, thus the brick.. so when i reinstalled IOS 60 patch plus PreLoader it worked... no idea really as I am at the merci of all these forums and walk thrus etc...)

ANYWAY... the reason I am writing is that I finally managed to get USB Loader GX working and RESOLVED.
I basically formatted the wii back to default settings via the normal Wii Settings menu.
4.1 still booted, even though i've thoroughly been wedging it with cIOSes, patches, bricks, etc...
after the "format", i followed above walkthru very carefully, etc and now USB loader GX has stopped going to black screen on game loads.

Now just have to patiently transfer all those images i've been keeping over the years to the WBMS drive.
and hope my non-techincal friends are impressed, when/if they ever see it work...

    good luck!
I hope you already know these steps, but just in case:

I suggest you post your situation and specifics in the Forum for Bricked Wiis. With a hardmod also onboard maybe a savemiifree maneuver might be able to help. Good luck: BRICKED Wii Issues ONLY
