Want to make sure I don't screw anything up so if you could point me to a simple guide or just quickly lay out the steps that would be great.

Your Wii fits the profile for the Wiis that can't play backup discs due to the new chip. What messie is saying is go ahead and try various combinations of cIOS and NeoGamma versions. If they continue to fail, presume your Wii has that chip and switch to an external HDD.

The different cIOS installers will all overwrite the version occupying the IOS249 slot. cIOS36rev10 has its own installer-you will install from HBC just as you did cIOS38rev14. NeoGamma versions can co-exist on the Wii while you try them out in combination with various IOS249s (cios36rev10, cIOS38rev13a, whatever)

Sounds like I'm not the only one having issues with a LU39 Wii. I know there are a few posts saying these units can't play back-up games from DVD, but are there also confirmations of people getting them to work?

What is the correct NeoGamma6 file to get? Is there a .wad like I have for R7? I found one copy but it consists of two folders: apps and sourcecode. If this is what I need to use then to I put this on the root of the SD card?

    Thanks

    Bricked?

I followed all the steps and it appears I bricked my Wii. It states that Files are corrump. It only will load to the Preloader screen. I tried to restore from bootmii, but when I try to load to goes to a blank black screen.

How can I fix? Is it possible to just load a few set up files and start over? Thanks!

I got my 3.4U softmoded to 4.1U and update HBC to 1.0.6, IOS35 v12.16 and SC to v18. Everything seems to work fine but there are two things keep happening:

    - Whenever I exit from any channels to the System Menu, my box is restarted.

    - If I click to the SD icon of the main screen of System Menu, it hangs and I need to turn off/on to get it back on. My SD is 1GB and stills have a lot of room.

Please let me know what needs to be fixed.

    Thank you,
If you still have the Private Folder and boot.elf on your SD card-remove them. While you don't actually need any files form the softmod resident on the SD, you might like to keep the Apps folder with just the Wad Manager folder and also keep the Wad folder-for now it can be empty. These folders are for your convenience in the future as you install additional apps and wads. Make sure to backup and secure your bootmi file and NAND backup, if you made one.

There is no one correct answer, hence the need to experiment. There are LU39s blissfully using NeoGammaR7 with cIOS38rev14; cIOS36rev10 with NeoGammaR7, R6,R5 and R4 and there are LU39s using cIOSrev13a or rev13b.....

If there were one correct answer we would provide it and life would less interesting.

However, the brand new Wiis that come with 4.0 regardless of serial number tend to have the new chip that prevents backup discs from playing. It's your choice whether to keep trying or move on to an external USB HDD- get a Western Digital if possible for you.

From the Preloader Menu can you get to HBC? Did you already try the recommendation on how to handle corrupt system file message in Step 5D?
Did you install IOS60patched and what sysmenu version are you on?

More help required . Figured I'd try a couple more things before giving up on this DVD back-up thing.

I tried to install the cIOS36 rev 10 but after it is installed it seems that things accessed though homebrew, as well as both NeoGamma R6 and R7 (installed R6 prior to 36rev10), just freeze up or go to a blank screen. Does it sound like I am doing something wrong or does my machine just not like rev10? The rev10 installer I have does not ask which IOS to use like the 38rev14 installed did...does it just use IOS36 by default?
Is it worth trying other revs? If so, in what order would you suggest I start trying them? If asked, I assume they all use IOS36?
Also, do you have links to the installers for the ones I should try next. I found a the Ultimate cIOS thread but from the one file I dl'ed, they are not the installed...just a .wad and a folder with boot.dol.

Edit: P.S. I get the 972 error in NeoGamma R6 using rev 14.

Oh, and is there anything left over on my SD card from running the tutorial that needs to be removed to prevent conflict when trying these other files?

Thanks again for being patient. Definitely need to find myself a compatible HDD right away!

I think it has to do with HBC-are you using 1.0.6 or 1.0.5? I have seen this a few times where some members downgraded to cIOS36rev10 and then Wad Mgr stopped working. I suggest you install HBC 1.0.3, then continue on. As for the first trials: I believe that cIOS36rev10 and NeoGamma R6 work well for disc backups, also cIOS38Rev13a with NeoGamma R6. I have not seen the other combos as often.

Hello, I need some help! I am about to pull my hair out. I can't get past step #1. I've tried loading the files in this guide plus the ones from bannerbomb but when I go to Data Management > Channels > SD Card nothing happens. The SD card is recognized but nothing loads. I go to the SD channel first, then insert the card. I have also tried installing the card first then going to the SD channel.

I am using a 2GB Sandisk SD card. It is SD and not SDHC because I already made that error when I bought a 8GB SDHC card!! The 2GB card works because I have been able to save a Wii sports profile to it. The card has been formatted in Fat32.

I just bought this Wii today. It is serial LU6 software version 3.4u. Wiiconnect is not on.

I have tried writing the files from

    a) Windows 7 with an integrated card reader in my Dell 2405FPW monitor
    b) XP with an integrated card reader in my Dell 2405FPW monitor.
    c) Vista on an integrate SD card reader on a Lenovo x61t laptop.

Does anyone have any ideas why the boot.elf file isn't starting?

The only thing that I can think of is the maybe the SD card readers I am using are too old. Both the monitor and the laptop are 3+ years old.

Can those of you that have been successful post the SD card reader you used?

    Thanks in advance
