Can't get Homebrew Channel when booting the Wii

I originally had version 3.4. Following the directions, I installed Bootmi as a CIOS and backed up my Wii. I used the firmware updater & am now using 4.1.

Everything seems to be working fine. I can play games through Neogamma. The Wad installer works.

When I use the Wii Storage Manager to check what I have on the SD card, the Wii freezes. I have to depress the power button on the Wii to reboot. Any ideas on why this happens?

The only way I can get to the Homebrew Channel is through the Wii Menu. When I try to access Homebrew on bootup, using Preloader, I get an error message: "Error Autobooting HBC. Maybe title not installed." Is this because I have bootmii installed as a CIOS? I now have 4.1 installed. Can I now install bootmii as boot2? Would doing this enable me to access the Homebrew Channel when booting up?

I'm very confused. I'm afraid that I won't be able to access my original nand backup since the only way I can run bootmi is by accessing the Homebrew Channel from the Wii menu? Any help would be appreciated.

Go into your sd card and in private folder delete aktn. Also for HBC you can either install an older version of HBC or get the PReloader with JODI fix.

Can you supply a link to an older version of Homebrew? Would I just delete Homebrew using the Wii Menu and then install an older version? Would I lose any functionality if I do this? Would I be able to install bootmii as boot2?

I presume you are referring to the SD card you used for the softmod?

Make sure you backup your bootmii and NAND files to somewhere safe. Otherwise, you need very little on that SD:1. Keep the Apps folder-all you need in there is the Wad Manager folder; 2. Keep the Wad folder - no need to keep the wad files you used though. The folders I recommended you keep are to help you when you install additional Homebrew apps and wads in the future.

Having bootmii installed as IOS does not affect the ability to access the HBC-the system 4.2 update searches for HBC to delete it. So, to evade this search and destroy function of 4.2, HBC changed the TitleID. Not every apps has been updated to the new title ID, yet. That's why you can either use an older version of HBC:HBC Installer 0.3.rar, or get a revised preloader version. This older version of HBC will still give you access to your Homebrew aapps and use of Homebrew Browser.

The Nintendo blocking of boot2 access cannot be altered.

You can if you wish. It is reported to take care of a freezing issue in the previous version.

Then continue with the softmod pack contents from Step 3 onward.
Cool thanks for the info! I just took the pack and replaced the bootmii boot.elf file and also replaced the Preloader app with the JODI one just in case (didnt install Preloader though).. I took the hacks.ini from the JODI Preloader and replaced the one in the pack as well.
Everything went smooth as can be.
My emulators are working great and I just spent the last hour running through some Kid Icarus and Metroid haha!

Just out of curiosity.. Is it safe to upgrade to 4.2 now? Im assuming all the bricks were due to the updating of Boot2 but mine is a very new one so Im thinking it already had v4. Will the update to 4.2 wipe anything (Ill have to go use the new guide all over) or since Im all up to date with HBC and Bootmii can I just do it?

The elimination of the boot2 access occurred last year, not with 4.2. The Nintendo 4.2 update searches and deletes HBC under its original title ID. It also replaces the IOSes that are commonly used in softmodding, IOSes 249, 222, 223 for example, with a stubbed or nonfunctional IOS. So, we do not recommend updating to 4.2 by Nintendo. Waninkoko has a FW4.2 updater that will update more safely, however, there is no current reason to update to 4.2.

Enjoy your Kid Icarus and Metroid.
