If you are having some difficulty related to completing this softmod tutorial, please provide additional information.

If you are asking how to customize your channel icon-check the site's search box using terms: create channels wadder

Make sure your USB HDD is compatible: USB Devices Compatibility List - WikiTemp

Use the bottom or left USB port (depending on position of Wii); make sure you don;t have one of those 2-connection HDDs (1 for data and 1 for power)

The NAND from a different Wii message was corrected last week by a new Hackmii release. You can download it and run another NAND backup if you like. Download from: BootMii.org. It's still version 3, corrected the bug, no version # change. You can also correct your current NAND copy with a hex editor (do a search of this site for this if you want to try).

You only see the system file msg with the USB HDD plugged in and the Wii is OK with no USB HDD?

Why is this and what can I do to get this to work?
try pressing 1 a few times, if that fails use wad manager to uninstall and then reinstall preloader from a new copy. The preloader0.29 apps folder should be placed in your Apps folder.

Thanks for the guide! It's great.
The NAND backup is less useful for the newer Wiis that cannot install bootmii as boot2. One can recover the Wii using the NAND copy and bootmii installed as IOS, but recovery is less assured. As bootmii is in the beta 3 development phase, the NAND copies that one makes under the IOS condition it made with the hope that a future bootmii release will address this constraint.

Backup of NAND and even installation of preloader are optional steps; not required for the purposes of the softmod process.

I first tried to hack with this method and couldn't get past the last part of step one. If I recall correctly, I was getting the same error (ret=-1) there.
I then tired one that involved using the IOS Downgrader. I could never get the IOS Downgrader to work because of the error (ret=-1).
I then found this tutorial and everything worked except the Firmware Updater 4.1.

I could be wrong, but it looked like that whenever the apps are trying to download from the internet, it's not working which is why I tried so many different ways (wireless security on/off, Wii Connect 24 on/off, etc.). Other internet functions on the Wii work fine.

I went out and bought a plain-vanilla 2GB SanDisk SD card, formatted FAT32 and copied the files from this tutorial to it. Unfortunatley the problem is exactly the same.

I found another post here, where user 'luvichi' has exactly the same problem and even did a video clip YouTube - MOV04217showing it (no solution to it, though).

    Any suggestions?
I am confused by your addn info-have you already successfully performed the softmod and are missing only the system 4.1 FW upgrade? Do you have already have HBC and bootmii installed?

If you have completed all steps up to the 4.1 FW update, we can do this offline if need be. You do have to have Step 3 completed sucessfully and have installed IOS60patched though.

Also, your Internet problems-did you check settings, enter the SSID of your router, etc. Are you using a USB Lan adaptor?

Should be fine. Make sure to read the tutorial very thoroughly and follow all the steps carefully. The only problems I saw with your serial number Wii were user error not softmod guide/tutorial errors. So, it looks OK.

Also, what system menu version are you starting from and is that the original system menu version?

Click on the link in Step 1a (located at the word "this") to make sure your SD card files are in right place.

Sorry for the confusion. All steps are done except the 4.1 Upgrade and the Preloader. An offline upgrade to 4.1 would be great!

I've gone over my internet settings over and over (and over) and they work in all other parts of the Wii.

    Thank you.

Think i need help, i have read all different posts and followed all instructions, but no matter what i do i cannot get this screen which say´s load elf etc. I have tried 4 different sd cards and formatted in all formats, tried copying the boot files from different versions etc, but still it never gives me the option to load. Just shows how many blocks i have on the sd card. Any help would be good.

    Hello,

I really can't describe how gratefull i am to this awesome guide

it helped me save my bricked wii and two of my friends'

but on one of those wii i frogot to do what is quoted in red below

    b) Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, this time select to load IOS15 on first screen using dpad left/right, then select the IOS36 menu & install patched (select 'yes' on all 3 patches) IOS36 to slot 36, again using IOS from SD card.
So i didn't enable the "Patch nand permissions"

is this a big issue that i better redo the whole guide from the start or can it be solved with a quick single step or can i ignore this step ???

    Thanks in advance

thanks for the notes. I installed everything and was able to play a few ntsc games, but no pal ones, then I installed the dump program and after doing this I can no longer play any burnt games, I get an 1101 error. is there a way to get this working again.
