Are you just venting or are you requesting some help? If the latter, please provide more detail about your Wii and the steps thaat worked and did not work. Also any error codes or messages seen.

If the former, sorry to hear of your frustrations. Some Wiis are just temperamental.

Congratulations on recovery from the semi-brick! Let's just finish up the tutorial step by step before we do anything that deviates from it, OK? I would prefer to finish up the softmod and make sure all works as it should. Besides, with preloader and NeoGamma installed and working, out of region backup discs should play.

I've followed the above guide as best I could using my 3.1E Wii. My aim is to be able to play US/Canada games and DVD's, as my English Wii and I now live in Canada.

After following the guide I can still play English games, but I cannot play US games. When i try to load them from system menu I just get a black screen and the controller is no longer connected to the console (and cannot reconnect).

Also, whenever I try to Launch NeoGamma I get a black screen, no menu's at all.

Whenever I get a black screen I have to unplug the power to reboot, as no buttons (power/reboot) seem to function.

I think I made an error in installing IOS60-Patched.wad (when on 3.1 system menu) at step 5a before I upgraded to 4.1 system menu later. Having re-read the guide I suspect I should have skipped this step.

I have tried selecting various IOS setting in Preloader settings, but none allow me to run games from US region. I have also ensured that the region hacks are enabled in the preloader menu.

I have BootMii installed as Boot2 and have a NAND backup, so I guess I could restore them and start again, but I fear I may just be missing a simple fix, which one of you hacking Guru's could point me to.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
It sounds as though you installed IOS60patched then ran the updater. That was correct. Because of all the black screens, I suggest you repeat Step 3. Then let's see what happens after that.

I completed the 5 steps and everything seems to be installed ok.
And i safely updated to 4.1 like you decribe in your guide.

Now i just want to install USB Loader GX and cIOScorp 3.3.
    I have 3 questions

    a) I read the readme.txt of cIOScorp 3.3 and it says that it modifies ios, so is it safe to install it after following your guide?

    b) And is it nessesary to install DVDX Fix? I have a previous installation of DVDX I did it through Hackmii after installing Bootmii as boot2 and the HBC ( maybe that was not very smart?)

    c) With USB Loader GX do i have to burn the games first in a dvd and then use it to install the game to the HDD or is there a better way?(sorry i am a bit confused over this)

Thank u for the time u spent creating the guide and making our wii experience even better !
If you intend to primarily play your games from an external USB HDD, you do not need cIOSCORP. You need a compatible HDD, WBFS Manager 3.0 to format that HDD so that the Wii will see it. To place games on the HDD you can: 1) place original or backup disc in Wii and USB Loader GX will copy to WBFS-formatted HDD or 2)copy a game ISO from a FAT32/NTSF formatted HDD or partition to the WBFS HDD or partition using WBFS Mgr on your PC.

    DVDx fix is not needed.

cIOSCORP can be installed after your softmod-yes, it is a very invasive mod in that it overwrites a large number of IOS's. Be very certain you want to do this before proceeding. Again, don't do this if you are playing mostly from the HDD.

Thanks gen3sf. I'll retry step 3 when I get home from work tonight and post back with how it goes.

One question/comment relating to this..... when I first carried out step 3 I was on 3.1E, so the TBR installer told me not to downgrade as I was running system menu<3.3. Because of this I skipped step 3a. I also noticed I did not have the option to load IOS36 at this point (I had never updated the Wii since I bought it about 2 years ago!) so I just went ahead with step 3b. My question is that now I have upgraded to 4.1, should I run through all of the sections in Step3 this time around?

    Thanks for the help!!

no you should not. as long as step 3d was completed successfully, only that is needed. since you can play any game from neogamma, you are all set.

Also, before you launch a game, go to neogamma options and try to find the force NTSC or PAL mod...one of these will work....it should be in options of neogamma, before you hit the launch DVD option..
