Let's try and restore your system menu first.

Unhappy Black Screen Problem after Softmod

First of all, thanks for all the hard work you guys have put into the guides and the extra support you provide through the forum.

I've followed the above guide as best I could using my 3.1E Wii. My aim is to be able to play US/Canada games and DVD's, as my English Wii and I now live in Canada.

After following the guide I can still play English games, but I cannot play US games. When i try to load them from system menu I just get a black screen and the controller is no longer connected to the console (and cannot reconnect).

Also, whenever I try to Launch NeoGamma I get a black screen, no menu's at all.

Whenever I get a black screen I have to unplug the power to reboot, as no buttons (power/reboot) seem to function.

I think I made an error in installing IOS60-Patched.wad (when on 3.1 system menu) at step 5a before I upgraded to 4.1 system menu later. Having re-read the guide I suspect I should have skipped this step.

I have tried selecting various IOS setting in Preloader settings, but none allow me to run games from US region. I have also ensured that the region hacks are enabled in the preloader menu.

I have BootMii installed as Boot2 and have a NAND backup, so I guess I could restore them and start again, but I fear I may just be missing a simple fix, which one of you hacking Guru's could point me to.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Make certain you use the updated Hermes installer as the previous version used IOS36 merged with IOS37. See here: http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-custom-s...os-v4-out.html.

The new version drops IOS36 in favor of IOS38 due to a driver problem.

Thanks Messie. Unfortunately whenever I launch Neogamma I just get a black screen, so dont see any of the configuration options. I then have to restart the Wii to do anything else. Is there a way to set this elsewhere?

thank u for this great tutorial ! very good and easy to follow.

I completed the 5 steps and everything seems to be installed ok.
And i safely updated to 4.1 like you decribe in your guide.

Now i just want to install USB Loader GX and cIOScorp 3.3.
    I have 3 questions

    a) I read the readme.txt of cIOScorp 3.3 and it says that it modifies ios, so is it safe to install it after following your guide?

    b) And is it nessesary to install DVDX Fix? I have a previous installation of DVDX I did it through Hackmii after installing Bootmii as boot2 and the HBC ( maybe that was not very smart?)

    c) With USB Loader GX do i have to burn the games first in a dvd and then use it to install the game to the HDD or is there a better way?(sorry i am a bit confused over this)

Thank u for the time u spent creating the guide and making our wii experience even better !

    Excellent guide. Very detailed.

Bought a used Wii 3 days ago since my last one decided to stop working all together a few months back. This new one had system 4.0u on it and came with an 8gb Kingston SD card. I was there when the guy brought it n to the store and sold it and since my friend owned the store we played on it for a few hours then he sold it to me for the price he paid for it. Took it home and proceeded to look up a hack and found this article on the site. Here is the problems I am having.

I've tried installing installing BootMii both ways and get FAILED (-1)

I've tried to prepare an SD Card under the menu and get FAILED (-1)

I try to quit the program and get Unable to mount the file system. Could not flush log to SD.

Any ideas why it will not work? I've tried formatting the card with the formatting program listed in the guide... Frustrating. :I

Is your SD card SDHC? Im assuming the problem is the SD card. Thats what happened to me. As Messie would say, "get a Sandisk 2GB SD card, no HC" heheh
