no, i was under the impression since I ran the system menu 4.1 updater and it installed the shop channel it would be fine.

I just have to install this file from the main post? wii shop 4 patched.rar

For the uses you describe, your SD card will probably be fine. The advice we give in this thread about the SanDisk SD is due to problems people experience with installing bootmii, making a NAND backup, and also in Step 5-installing the preloader and slecting the hacks.ini choices. You are not doing any of that; installing Homebrew is not likely to cause your Wii to brick so go have fun.
my question to you (another, sorry i need to know all the possible variables if i install this otherwise my wii will get bricked), so to my understanding, do i need to install the miibackup thing (do you suggest this?)

so i can be safe just by installing the homebrew from your guide and the ocarina thing (don't know how?)?

    3) and when you said likely to not brick (what do you suggest say the worst case scenario)?

Yes, you should install it from the optional section of this tutorial. I think your problems are due to the lack of the IOS patch. I believe the version of IOS61 you have now has not been TB'ed

I think installing the HBC and HB Browser is among the most useful and yet benign of the Wii mod options. However, be clear on this point-anything you do beyond buying game discs and playing them on the Wii is a modification that voids the Nintendo warranty. If you are not comfortable with either that possibility or with any degree of risk to your Wii, there are thousands of people who enjoy nothing more than playing their purchased games on their Wii.

You should consider what you want from your Wii and read a bit more about any steps needed to get you there. To read more about HBC and HB Browser see this: WiiBrew.

you are in fact right, all i want to have is the wii "gameshark" aka ocarina/gekko and the browser, i am happy on buying games not having to play the back ups as over the years it does not play anymore, so not worth it.

    1) question, if i install the HBC, what is the % for having a bricked wii
    2) after HBC, what is the % for bricking if i install the ocarina after

i know what you said, for my options that i have said above, do i need to do the bootmii and have a NAND backup, is it really necessary?

    thanks a whole lot gen2sf

That's why I gave the link to the Wiibrew site. I don't have any population studies; not aware of any controlled clinical trials, etc. I try to help out wiihacks.com members with as much as I can upon the basis of my limited knowledge. I will neither try to advocate for any Wii mod nor will I overstep the limits of my knowledge.

Most bricks are due to people not following the instructions of a reputable guide/tutorial exactly as described. On the Wiibrew website is a very detailed instruction with graphics-take a look-see if that makes you more comfortable; if not, keep looking. Look at posts reporting the kinds of problems that have occurred in association with the procedures you want to perform.

The Dogeggs softmod tutorial associated with this thread is not what you want right now. Keep looking and reading. Best of luck of to you.

Check your firewall. Folks that report problems such as yours generally report back that their router security settings or firewall was the source of the problem.
As I have said previously, I have no issues downloading from other sites so it can't be firewall or router problems. If that was the case I would have issues with all downloads not just Mediafire. Is there somewhere else I can get these files.

I did read your entire post and the situation you described is similar to what some others have reported. I am not sufficiently cognizant of the specifics of the Mediafire server to identify why other downloads are reportedly normal while the Mediafire downloads appear sluggish, partially or even totally blocked. Perhaps it is something to do with those darn popup window ads that Mediafire uses.

As far as I can tell, all the moderators and staff on the site appear to use the MediaFire server for the downloads. You are, of course, welcome to keep trying and asking for an alternative. Best of luck to you.

I appreciate your reply. I'm more inclined to agree with you. Although I have popups blocked on my browser I did check with Mediafire support earlier who acknowledged that download speeds of the file were slightly slower than average which could be due to high traffic on the server, I was just inquiring if I could get these files elsewhere. If not then I will have to seek alternative options. Thanks for your help.
