    1036:
Update error through waninkoko's 4.1 firmware updater. Caused if ios60 patched was not previously installed. Follow the instructions here for more details.

    Found in The Error Index
    Damn I suck!!!!

    Regular Periodic Posting of Links

    1. MIRROR SITES

If the Tutorial download link does not work for you and you are not using a download manager and have already checked your firewall settings, cleared your browser's history and cache, then here are some alternative mirror sites for the softmod download:
Mirror 1 (Megaupload) and Mirror 2 (MediaFire).

Rar files can be extracted with
    WinRar, 7-Zip, or RarZilla.

    2. Offline update to system menu 4.1. (Updates only the system menu, no IOSes or channels are updated as in the case of the network updating, so the interim 4.0 step is not performed in the offline update of 3.1 and earlier Wiis.)

Repeated failure of network update or Wii has NO INTERNET. Perform an offline update of the system menu:

If your Wii is 3.xU (US):
    SystemMenu-NTSCU-v449.rar
If your Wii is 3.xE (European):
    SystemMenu-PAL-v450.rar

(Post in the forum thread if you need to update a different region and a link will be provided)

Download the correct system menu file for your Wiiís region. Use WinRar to extract the sysmenu wad file. Copy the wad to your SD card and use Wad Manager to install (leave at the default settings of IOS249 and SD card slot) IOS60patched and then sysmenu.wad. Proceed to Tutorial Step 5B.

    3. Unable to download Firmware Updater 4.0: Mirror Site
HERE . Use WinRar to extract the file and then copy the boot.dol file into the Apps folder on your SD card. Make sure you have installed IOS60patched. Go to the HBC menu and run FW4.0Updater. You may now run FW4.1updater; no need to re-install IOS60patched. Proceed to Tutorial Step 5B.

No I definitely loaded it. Would it hurt to go back and do it again?

    4. UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM MENU VERSION

Warning - If you don't install the patched IOS60 first you will brick!

This step is optional unless you are on 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 in which case you must update, if you are on 3.2 or 4.0 you can update if you want and it is recommended that you do, if you are on 4.1 there is no need obviously! If you are on 3.1 you will have to update to 4.0 first, make sure you install the patched IOS60 first though still. Before you update to 4.1 make sure you have at least 250 blocks free or you will brick, install IOS60-patched first with Wad Manager using IOS249, then run Firmware Updater 4.1. If you are on 3.3 or 3.4 then you must update now - DO NOT install priiloader until you have updated as it will cause untold problems!.

Quick question...now that 4.3 is out is this step null and void? If I am modding a wii that is on 3.4 what happens if I attempt to update on this particular step? I have modded plenty of 4.2's and even fixed an accidental update to 4.3 but what happens if I mod an older Wii that has not been updated to the newest Frimware of 4.3...what do I do at this step now that the newest Firmware (4.3) is here?

Apparently you're not reading the tutorial correctly:

If you look on your SD card (or in the video directly above this portion of the tutorial you quoted) you'll see a "safe" firmware updater. This is an HBC app you run that'll update you to 4.1 --- do NOT accept an official update!

If you do it once or 1,000 times no harm will come to your system.
