Bad, yes. Fixable, yes. Just more of a pain to softmod now.

If you read it again it's talking about using the 4.1 installer included in the pack after installing ios60patched. Never mentions an online nintendo update.

i was just wanna make sure that this dogeggs guide is really flawless because this tread will not go as far as 15231 ++ if these guide is done in orderlymanner and simple to underatand. even the video doesnot have any audio and the wii that in dogeggs video doesnt show that he's softmodding a 4.1u firmware. also the video is not continous...

I suggest you take a break. It can be very overwhelming when just getting started. Your statistics are really off there. There have been over 1.8 million views of this guide with a little over 15,000 posts. Even if every single post was a report of failure, it would still be under a percent.

The videos in this guide are to illustrate and supplement the text, which is maintained and supported.
Please also keep in mind that you do not have to softmod your Wii either now or ever. There is a skewed bias here as this is a Wii hacking site, but millions of Wii owners are perfectly happy buying and playing their games on unmodded Wiis. So, take a break and don't do anything for now or if you are not comfortable don't do it at all.
Hacking the Wii is not a customer service and does require some effort on your part. It's not for everyone. It is also not easy to maintain these guides with both repetitive questions from new members who fail to read and follow directions and with Nintendo and game developers making changes to counter the mods. That is why these guides do need to keep changing and also why, sometimes members sign on during a period when many changes have not been worked out.
You can also look at getting either the WODE or SunDriver HD. In very basic terms substitute money for your own learning and efforts-hard mods are easier, but cost and again Nintendo will continue to create system changes to counter both hard and softmods. Before hard mod owners didn;t have to know anything, now they too have to watch for Nintendo updates.
For an absolute-do not mod at all. However, your Wii will still eventually fail-no absolute guarantees there either. Good luck to you; enjoy your Wii whatever you decide to do.

offline upgrade to 4.0?
I have a wii on 3.0U, which I updated to 3.1U using SSBB. Step 4 of the tutorial instructs the following 3.1-4.0-4.1.
The 4.0 upgrade is via a boot.dol package and requires the wii to be online. Is there a way to upgrade the firmware to 4.0U offline?
Or is it safe to upgrade from 3.1 -> 4.1 using the included 4.1 upgrade files?

I'm getting an error on Step 3 a) of this guide, when you're supposed to downgrade IOS15 with the Trucha Bug Restorer.
Step 1: Set the revison to 0
Step 2: Install IOS with low revision
Preparations complete, press A to start step 1...
Setting the revision to 0...
Error: ES_AddTitleStart returned -1035, maybe you need an updated Downgrader
Error: Could not set the revision to 0
I tried to use a newer version of Trucha Bug Restorer but I'm getting another error with it:
Could not open file: sd:/IOS15-64-v1031.wad
Could not open file: sd:/IOS15-64-v1031.wad.out.wad
Error reading IOS into memory
I recently downgraded my Wii from 4.3e to 4.1e and then "virginized" the console because something went horribly wrong with the softmodding.
Any help would be highly appreciated

Step 3. Get A CIOS
When I run Trucha Bug Restorer, I don't have the option to Load IOS36, but can select from IOS4, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 20, 21, 22, 28, 30, 31, 33, 34 and 35!
Should I load IOS35, which seems to be the default, and carry on with the guide?
