Well for one, if you're going to do this tutorial you'd have to update your Wii (certain aspects of it like Priiloader and the associated hacks aren't compatible with it). I know Gen3SF posted on the benefits of say going from 3.2 to 4.1 the other day in this post which pretty much would also apply to 3.1

is it just to enable playing backup copies of games burned on dvds? (which is btw exactly what i need :P)

allso, what can and cannot be done on this? update wii is obviously a big no-no, but what about other things?

i came across "HBC is a self updating - bla bla something" somewhere on this forum. does it mean it will want to update every so often if wii is connected to the internet? should i let it? are any other things in the future want to get updated and what do i do with them?

and what about the original Wii functionality? anything (except the previously mentioned update option) im not suppolsed to use? like internet borwsing, playing online, wii shop etc?

oh: does this allready support the wiimote extension enhanced motion detection thingy that comes on the back of wiimote?

either this kinda info is the only thing this tutorial is missing to go from amazing to flawless, or i just like to complicate my life way too much (which would mean that aslong as i dont update i have a wii thats same as a "virgin" wii, just that it runs backups from dvds too? O_o)

... well or im a noob and/or ignorant (which i sincerely hope im not - i did go through a couple of quite long FAQs i found on here) - in that case please dont forget to add some helpfull links too, before/after yelling at me :P
Where to begin on the reply, hmmm.... Recent Wii purchases of six months ago or newer won't likely be able to play backups via DVD as Nintendo introduced a non-moddable drive. You can instead should that be the case, opt for USB HD gaming. There's an excellent guide on that subject here. The hack will also allow for wiiware games to be ran off SD cards as well. If you do the tutorial/mod, make sure you install Priiloader as the hacks now also prevent an online update to 4.2 by accident (say with kids or the like). Wii Shop Channel will require another tutorial to be followed as outlined here and works for any 4.X Wii (not just 4.2). The home brew channel does indeed offer updates via online method but you should only accept those update offers after fully completing the mod. The hack/tutorial is not detectable by Nintendo, you can play online, internet, etc. The use of the newer Wiimote has nothing to do with the hack, it works on all Wiis hacked or not.

I have read on here that the Twilight hack is "buggy/ inconsistent" but not sure if that is with all Versions or what it is specific to. Also, I only have the Homebrew Channel and do not remember installing the "Bootmii/boot2/IOS" first... So in conclusion will I be "bricking my wii" for not following this Tutorial to the T or is this something I can work around and continue on to STEP 2?

In Advance if this is a problem is there a way to UNLOAD/DELETE the (HBC) in order to ensure proper install?

    Thanks,

    Wii - 3.1U
HomeBrew Channel Installed via Twilight Hack...
You can start on Step 3D if you wish (Step 3A-C do not apply to Wiis with 3.2 or 3.1 as they still have the Trucha Bug). You can optionally install BootMii and it's fully encouraged. That's about the only step that doesn't matter when you do it (before is always good, on a 3.1 Wii you should get boot2 option for its installation and that's what you want; it'll help you recover from 99.9% of any type of brick you'd ever get).

thanks for the info i think my Wii is quite old tho, alltho i bought it yesterday :P musthave been on the shelves for quite a while, its 3.4... i hope DVDs work, because the less tutorials and modding i attempt on it the less chances of me epically bricking it. thats how i see it anyway, i've never been too lucky with stuff like that ^^

    thanks again for the info

okay my HBC flipped, it says to reinstall... how exactly do i do that? :S i dont wanna mess anything >_<

    edit:

reinstall after i finish the guide, yes i know :P

oh, and another question: nightstah said "Wii Shop Channel will require another tutorial" so does that mean i have no shop channel, its not working, or i have it and i shouldnt touch it at all unless i follow that other tutorial?

this is al very confusing for me O_o

    edit 2:

by the way, after i finish this guide, does it still matter what games i play? NTSC or PAL? does it hurt to just burn a game and flip it in to check if it works or not? can it mess up anything?

thanks so much nightstah, took your advice, used western digital my passport 320gb hd and with this hack i'm now playing new super mario direct from my hard drive. you guys rock! cant thank you enough.

p.s. for anyone else having the same probs with the new wii drive just follow the advice given by nightstah and co and check compatible hd's before buying (it's important.)

    thanks again

If you'd looked before posting, you'd see the answer three posts up from your original post.
