This tutorial will install Neo Gamma (a backup loader) and it's capable of playing out of region/PAL games on NTSC, and vice versa. I will give you a few links on some of the things you mention, but realize outside of the softmod itself inquiries on the links belong to the thread in which they come from (in other words, you have a question on the softmod, it goes here; on NSMB, it goes elsewhere for example).

NSMB will take some extra work to get going, if you're having issues it has nothing to do with your particular System Menu version -- see this thread.

On the mplayer/DVD software playing issue, see this thread.

There's always hope another utility or tool will be introduced in which a more reliable method of NAND restoration may eventually come available. It's something you can try, but only after checking with the folks in this section of wiihacks should it even be considered. Any bricked Wii-related questions go there first; if it's to the point of throw it away or try it after making the inquiry, it won't hurt. There have been a couple of success stories using it as an IOS, but I think largely it depends on the kind of brick more than anything else.

OK, thanks for the reply. Sorry about the duplicate question, I had read a bunch of pages on this thread and had not found an answer before posting mine. This guide is so popular that it would take a whole day just to read everything! I will follow the guide step by step then and see...
Thanks again nightstah & Dogeggs for this tutorial!

I've just started and it says that bootmii can only be installed as an IOS and the guide says
not recommended to restore your NAND if you have Bootmii installed as an IOS
So is there a way to restore a backup if a brick happens?

    Yet another noob mistake
I just got it all done and suddenly noticed skipped part 3 a,b,and c steps Trucha Bug Restorer steps by mistake.
So i'm at 4.1, priiloader, Neogamm r8rc1, basically did everything else on this tutorial. is it safe or even needed to go back and do 3 a,b,c? Should I then redo 3d?

    BTW
Homebrew is still upside down and will not let me reinstall... Did a search but I didn't quite understand what I came up with - bannerbomb. Tried it - same thing. must be doing something wrong.

What version is/was your Wii? If you had it previously modded or were on 3.2 or earlier, no you'd be fine. If it works as-is, then you're good.

Have you updated HBC? It should be prompting to do so; if you've successfully completed the mod, then accept it and it should right itself. You reinstall it just the same manner in which you installed it, if it's not prompting to update or the update fails to rectify the upside down screen. You didn't install cIOSCorp, did you?

    Cool I didn't update HBC...

    Arghh..hello Nightstah

Just thought I would share this ere story about the HBC and its installation, I downloaded the offline System Menu 4.1E rar package and installed without problems. Then I had to reinstall HBC as it was flipped. But I reinstalled HBC aas per guide and it came back to normal.

Now having followed your great guide and noted and wrote down all the steps I saw on the LCD screen for my own records, I have never gotten a request to update HBC.

Is it because the download package you provided contains that latest HBC? If you suggest that I should update can you provide me with an offline WAD package download link please as I do not want to have internet access via my Wii and I prefer the offline installation method. As you can tell I preferred the offline system menu installation.

Also would you recommend that I place the latest NeoGamma dol that your forum has provided in the relevant section which has not been written on since 2009? I think its Neogammar8 rc1 plus the fowarder??? I noted on the USB Loader GX forum that my D3V2 Wii somehow is able to play burned Wii backups via NeoGamma so I'm stoked and won't need Wiikey2. I the near future I will attempt to backup an Original gamecube disc and then burn its ISO and see if NeoGamma will load it. Because for some strange reason it allows me to load Action-Replay for gamecube disc.

    arghhh thanks matey

If the latest isn't included, try this link.

I have no idea what you're trying to relay about NeoGamma; this tutorial already comes with a wad install of R8 RC1.

    You don't have a D3-2 drive then.

Glad you're enjoying yourself and your Wii.

Error 2011 means you failed to reintroduce the Trucha Bug (that'd be Step 3). You must use a 2gb or less full SD card --- not a Micro SD w/adapter, nor a SDHC. You must use the dpad to change both the IOS and the value as called for in Step 3 (realize that neither the IOS or the value default to what needs to be in there). You must press "A" on that one part all three times --- an erroneous "B" backs you out and doesn't complete that portion of Step 3.
