Not to scare any potential users, or this could be considered more of a MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS TO THE T!!!

I bricked my neighbors wii last night attempting these procedures. Luckily he is a fellow modder and didn't take it TOO hard (I am offering to buy a new system or at least chip in on one) I am not sure what the final straw was but I do know that I forgot to set his system up to recognize my wireless network. This in turn did not allow the 4.1 update to occcur and the system just hung. The only way out was a hard reboot.

    Other issues were
-I did not read the Trucha bug part correctly and had to do it twice as I loaded IOS36 the second time.
    - Did not have hacks.ini loaded so no hacks were loaded.
    - After installing preloader, could not load the wii system menu with corrupted file warning.

In resolution for these issues with the system menu I searched out and found that you could load a previous version system menu WAD. After reinstalling, the wii pretty much bricked.

After followup with Dogeggs, I found that I should have tried reinstalling preloader before everything else.

ONCE AGAIN, NOT COMPLAINING AS THIS GUIDE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED EVERYTHING WHEN FOLLOWED PROPERLY ON MY OWN SYSTEM. JUST A TESTIMONY TO WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW EVERYTHING EXACTLY!!

Currently, the system doesn't even boot a video signal but has a green light and can load and eject DVD's. I have tried loading into preloader but no dice. I am trying to get my hands on a gamecube controller for a try with savemii frii, but I think it is a lost cause.

If anything comes off of this post, I hope it helps someone else that might have walked down the same install issues before they brick their wii.

    Musicandidol,
First, a quick checklist to make sure you got everything:
latest cIOS (38 rev14), USB frontloader like USB Loader GX, backup loader like Neo Gamma R7, IMGburn. Have you tried burning at a slower speed, more successes at 1X speed. I recall somebody said that the Wii DVD operates at 3X speed to justify burning at an identical rate. I just read that the slower the better.

    Musicandidol,
Sorry, I guess you are burning backup discs only, not to an external HDD. I forgot. One thing, now that you mention it, you are using NeoGamma R7 with cIOS38rev14 aren't you. That does give some folks problems when playing from backup discs. That combo works best for playing off the external USB HDD. You might want to step the Neo Gamma down a revision or two for backup disc play. But definitely try burning at the slowest possible speed-hard to see that pile of wasted discs tho isn't it? I switched to external HDD-much better and neater for the room:-)

    crsimons,
    1. You aren't on a Japanese version are you? Remember no preloader hacks for these. 2.Otherwise, maybe the install did not go through cleanly and you can try again. 3.Alternatively, the preloader is an option that you can bypass especially if you did the bootmii step.
4.You could take care of the system menu hacks by installing Starfallor startpatch.

    Got a friend with a LU64 wii and I believe it's 3.4.
No internet connection but wants it updated. My question is, can he update to 4.1 and then use this guide to hack it or wait until after hacking it to update to 4.1?
Been reading and reading and didn't see my question so sorry if it's already been asked.
