    Nightah,

Seems like a lot of members having the same issue with 3.1 wii's. Maybe the tutorial should have address this problem that 3.1 wii's can skip steps 3a-3c. Also for those that doesn't have IOS36 and skipped to 3d are there any advantage or disadvantage? What does IOS36 do? Will later on step 4 updating your system menu will install IOS36 that were missing for their wii consoles? Or should those with missing IOS36 be installed as a wad after the mod was completed?

For example if I have Super Smash Bro. Brawl and it contains system menu 3.1 and IOS36 should one using this disc update then perform step 3d?

Just a suggestion and want to know more about the IOS36.

    Thanks,
    GL

    need some advice please

I took the leap and after much reading, followed the tutorial and finished it successfully... or so I thought.

Right now I cannot play a backup through the neogamma channel. In reading and searching, I thought maybe I had the dvd drive that cannot read backups and would need to use the USB approach. (Which is fine)

    But my problems now are

    1) No system sounds

    2) I cannot play an origonal wii disk through the disk channel

    3) neogamma gives disk read error of 1051

I started with 3.4u , had to install bootmii as IOS, backed up nand, completed step three, installed IOS60 patched, and then updated to firmware 4.1 by downloading the file, placing it in the wad folder on SD card and used wad manager. (no net on wii)
Then installed priiloader as per the guide.
Reloaded HBC to reverse the backwards screen and everything looked OK.

An additional tidbit.... when I couldn't get the origonal wii dvd to play, I went into wii options to confirm I did see ver 4.1u, when I hit the settings button, I never got the settings screen to see the ver #, but got a stack dump screen... black screen with white lettering with some memory address listings on it. ( seen that in old MS windows crashes in the past) Everything was frozen and I had to power cycle. Everything rebooted with no problem, and I have been able to go in to check the ver# multiple times with out it crashing like that.

I should be able to play origonal DVDS even with the mods right?

Sorry for the long post, trying to share what might be helpful.

can someone give me a push in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance.

Also on that one part where it says you must hit "A" three times --- make sure you do, an erroneous "B" will back you out and not complete the step.

Thanks for reply. I have already updated to 4.2u, so, should follow the step 3 of the 3.1-4.1 tutorial?

Uhm I don't know if anyone has asked this but I have a 256 mb scandisk sd card, its not sdhc or micro in the adaptor. Is that still ok to use or is it too small?

    ------------Edit------------------

Nevermind. I just reread it again. I need around 600 mb to back up the nand.

It'll work if you skip your NAND backup. If you're hell bent to do the mod and wish to back up your NAND later when a larger SD card is available (it'll still have to be a standard SD card 2gb or less and not a MicroSD or SDHC), you may elect to do so.

Being that this tutorial/mod is for Wiis between 3.1 and 4.1, no. You'll need to do one of the two 4.2 Wii versions that can be found under the Tutorial category at the top of the page.

Error 1051 we've seen recently which is usually an indicator of a D3-2 drive. That being said, I wonder at that as your Wii was on 3.4 prior to the update. How old is it? Yes, you should be able to play original Wii games in both the disc channel (where it'll spin @ 6X) or via Loader. Where did you source the 4.1U wad file from if you didn't use the firmware updater --- Dog Egg's MediaFire or? Another question: if you load wad manager, does it come up defaulting to IOS 249?

I do not maintain or edit the tutorial. That'd be Dog Egg's area. IOS36 isn't there as this was introduced in later System Menu versions. When you run the updater to 4.0 and then the one to 4.1, you get this IOS. For a long time I believe this tutorial had been for 3.2 to 4.1 Wiis, and the inclusion at a later time of 3.1 was seen as a benefit to those who previously were "left out in the cold." I do not disagree that portion could be spelled out a little bit better with regard to the Step 3 thing, but again not my area.

Where does this tutorial state, encourage, or otherwise condone a downgrade? Answer: it doesn't. Please realize if you attempt this and brick, don't come here complainin' about it is what I'm getting at.

Nightstah,Hopefully you can answer this question.I want to play Monster Hunter but most people are saying that you need to load other IOS's.If I load those IOS's,will they overwrite the ones I have installed when I initially soft modded my Wii or are they just added?I don't want to mess up being able to play other games just to get that one to work.
