Thank you for the clarification. Please add that info to the guide.

So just to be sure here, do I still need to do step 3? As I'm on 3.1 which already has the Trucha bug,why would I need to restore it? On screen it says to skip if you don't need it, for example if you have system menu <3.3

Thanks again for all the help.
You need to do Step 3D which is the cIOS install (aka IOS 249).

Didn't you already ask about this? Um, that sounds like HD spindown --- a lot of laptop HDs have energy-saving measures built in like turning themselves off due to perceived inactivity; the Wii doesn't support the signal necessary to avoid this. Some HD vendors do include a utility you can download to extend the spindown time or perhaps even turn that feature off. You really ought to verify your controller/HD compatibility by either gbatemp thread there or the Wiihacks one here.

So, go into the Homebrew channel and start the WAD manager. Then select to load from IOS36 (should be default) load from SD card and click on the WAD folder and then click on the Neogamma file to install it.

I did that and walla! I was able to play a game (just one so far. I am not far in front of you on this...lol)
Burning disc 2 as we speak!
There is no "supposedly" about it re: disc channel --- if you really want that feature, you could install cIOSCorp (yuck). Also, while we appreciate you offering your fellow users advice please be careful to make sure that info is accurate --- for example, wad manager better come up IOS 249 default, not 36.

has anyone got any suggestions on what could be causing this? would a different loader make the difference?

    any help is much appreciated.

I can tell you Scooby Doo: First Frights NTSC works flawlessly on my 4.1U Wii; the only thing I did was this guide, nothing else. I'd say it's not the game, but something else (but what I'm not really sure right off). Memorex are junk media, real pieces of crap; it's quite possible you have a bad burn. Why don't you retry with quality media ---- Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Ritek G05 all work best.

This is a 3.1u and Im stuck on 3a

    3. GET A CIOS

    a) Go to Homebrew channel and run Trucha Bug Restorer, load IOS36, press 1, read the warnings then select 'downgrade IOS15', select to load IOS from SD card then let it do its job, keep an eye on what it is doing and make sure you select 'load from sd card' when it asks & don't get any errors.

When I pull up the Trucha Bug Restorer there is no IOS36 to load. It stops at 35.
Ive tried to load Bootmi as boot2 and as a Cios and neither made a difference. Any help would be appreciated..
3.1 lacks IOS 36 and already has the Trucha vulnerability (all the IOS do). Just pick the closest one --- 35 in your case --- and do Step 3D only (3A-3C don't apply to your 3.1 Wii). Then continue on with Step 4, etc...

I asked the question in another section but didn't get an answer so I figured I would get a quicker response in this thread.I figured it out anyway.I noticed the fan was not kicking on so I opened up the Wii and the plug had fallen out for some reason. All is well now but I do have 1 more question. Is there a way to put the USB Loader GX on the Home Page as a channel so I don't have to go through the HB Channel to locate it?

If it was purchased within the last six months, high probability D3-2 drive and your only options are replace the PCB/Logic board attached to the drive with an older one, USB HD, or WODE. Did it give an error # by chance?

Download the latest and greatest (you want the wad version) of USB Loader GX here. Put it in your /wad folder, launch wad manager via HBC. Use IOS 249 (should default to this) and SD card as source. Navigate to the /wad folder and install.

    Talking Thank You!

    Hi all.

Just a quick note to say THANK YOU to the OP for their fantastic guide.
It allowed me to softmod a friends Wii and included all the updates they needed.

I also used it on my 4.0E Wii to update to 4.1 safely and also to include the priiloader so that disc/internet updates are no longer allowed (i.e. prevents someone accidentally doing it).
I aready have a WiiKey v1 so didn't need to install Neogamma.

For completeness, on the final step I also updated the shop channel and the internet channels and then went into the shop channel to allow the updated Nintendo Channel to download.

So far so good, everything is working fine .

Thanx again for such a brilliant guide.
